P E R S O N A L I T Y
Oni has a strong desire to remain in control. He keeps hold of his emotions, usually fully aware of exactly how he feels and how to keep his emotions in check and often times hidden from others. Should he loose any kind of control though he can very quickly become frustrated and his strong willpower over his emotions can slip and one can truly see him. He is perfectionistic and to him, control is everything. |

When Oni was quite young he was destined to serve the Windsinger. His parents raised him with this in mind telling him that it was his destiny, it was his duty. Other dragons whispered sadly for his sake, shaking their heads as he walked by. The little pearlcatcher made no friends despite his efforts. No one wanted to be friends with a dragon that would soon be leaving.
Eventually the lonely pearlcatcher's time came. He was taken from Cloudsong down to the Reedcliff ascent where he was told to wait until an ambassador came for him to take him to his new life. Oni was scared and lonely. He had never wanted this life and he had dreaded this day. He'd had enough and after he was left alone, he fled. Deciding to take destiny into his own claws.
The pearlcatcher left the windy lands, travelling through the Ashfalll Waste, the Shifting Expanse, staring in horror at the massive emperor of the Sunbeam Ruins. He quickly fled from the light domain into the Tangled Wood, getting lost in the dark forests. It was here that he had his first encounter with the shade.
Lost, scared and alone in the shadowed woods a small bit of the shade took the form of a dragon and approached him. It spoke and initially the way it sounded terrified him further but it's words were kind. It offered to lead him out of the woods, to a better place. It offered companionship. It told him that it was also alone in the world. Oni for the first time felt a kinship with another being.
Shade and dragon traveled together, Oni telling it all about his life, his home, discussing the gods and the unfairness of being just given away, a pre-chosen destiny. The shade whispered tales of a hidden deity. One lost to time, a god that had unfairly been exiled from it's home by the other gods. A deity that didn't require sacrifice, that allowed it's subjects to do as they pleased. Oni was curious and asked more and more questions until the bit of shade stated that he could in fact visit this deity.
Oni agreed and the shade suddenly swooped over the little pearlcatcher, encasing his orb, turning it black and murky. Oni starred into it fearfully, uncertain what was happening. He saw the shade in that moment, in it's entirety. He witnessed what lay hidden in and beyond the shade. He claims he saw the 12th deity that day. As he stared into his pearl, it suddenly shattered and the bit of shade that had been in it swirled out and into him. Oni passed out.
When he woke he was no longer a small pearlcatcher. He was big, and long. A spiral. He felt stronger as well and he wasn't alone. He could feel the shade in him, it was now a part of him, whispering to him words of strength, power, comfort. It was his friend now and forever.
Oni simply showed up one day at what was once known as Guild Aetheria. The spiral introduced himself to the Guild leader at the time, Kaito. He initially said he only planned on staying for a short amount of time at the guild before moving on but he never actually stated when he planned on leaving. In fact, Oni after accessing the guild had decided to make the guild his home.
His shade companion saw an opportunity though, it told Oni that he could guide and lead these dragons to the way of the exiled deity. Oni was convinced this was the right thing to do and thus, quickly worked his way to becoming friends and well trusted with all the dragons of the guild.
Once he had done so, he one by one led the dragons astray, off to aid other dragons in the plague lands where he one, by one, pushed them into the primordial soup and waited. When the dragons slipped out they were different, changed, minds spit into two and disoriented. They were easily manipulated, led astray. With Oni and the Shade's magic they were corrupted and lost their previous memories and were instead guided to follow the will of the shade, this 'sleeping god'.
