Vulcan was the first to find the area now home to the Clan of Gloom. He wandered here after a long search for a charge, but, never finding one, he despaired of ever gaining a charge. Vulcan felt hopless, and the abandoned lair he found here - half-dug tunnels of caves, claw-marks on trees, broken egg shells, and shed scales - did not help his mood. Vulcan lay in an old nesting chamber in the caves, dolefully peering at cobwebbed egg shells and dragon nests that now housed small animals. He wondered what had happened to the previous clan, and whether he would perish there.

Then, a light shined from without the chamber. He lifted his head, thinking a light dragon or some hideous creature was approaching to do battle. He resigned himself to defeat, and waited. A white dragon entered. A she-dragon. A she-dragon with scales that shone white as a a star in the darkness, and with a look of surprise and pity on her face.

This was Serafina, and she brought light to Vulcan's darkness. Together, the two built their own clan and found that it was the charge they had both sought. Vulcan expanded the clan's territory, pushing back the Beastclans that had taken over the area. Even now, as a grandfather, Vulcan is ferocious in the defense of his clan, and the others think of him as something like a papa bear. Still, Vulcan is a gentle giant, often found snoozing with a pile of hatchlings chewing on his tail or sleeping next to his huge bulk.
