Upon the discovery of the Forbidden Portal, the inquisitive CONSCIOUSNESS.173 of HIVE.267 immediately wanted knowledge of this mysterious structure. He wanted to know about the foreign creatures that entered Sornieth, their potential benefits to the hivemind, whether or not they could be considered a threat, and most of all, what was on the other side of the portal. He wanted to take advantage of this new opportunity, explore lands unknown to all of Sornieth, cultivate the resources, and even begin new hive colonies there. Anything to help the hivemind grow and expand their knowledge bases which continue to develop exponentially as the hive gradually claims more of Sornieth.
The consciousness sends various hive organisms regularly with the adequate resources necessary for the building of new hives to the Forbidden Portal in hopes that they will succeed in taking a part of these unknown lands for themselves. But this expedition does not come without risk of sabotage and theft. At such a distance, they are off the consciousness' radar and vulnerable. Other hives might wish to take these drones for themselves, or those wishing to combat hives might terminate or repurpose these drones to further their own goals. The drones are equipped with large sacs of assimilation fluid in their throats so they can transform dragons even larger than themselves into drones, and some even have the coding that enables them to metamorphose into a consciousness when the time is right.
If the hivemind does succeed in twisting this strange new world to their advantage, then it'll only prove that resistance against them truly is futile. No matter what defensive measures are taken, eventually the hivemind will find a way to bypass them and turn all into one, and one will be all.
