My story is probably the strangest yet. My egg was found by the Sentinels in the shadow of the Pillar Fragment. No one knows how it got there. When it hatched, everyone was astonished to see my colouring, my primal eyes. I was christened Faolan, and raised as an orphan.

While still a hatchling, my connection to the Icewarden was obvious. My breath, though yet untrained, contained incredible power. I've been kept a secret by the Sentinels, and tutored privately by the Ice flights best scholars and mages.

Now I'm old enough to join an Order, and I want to be a Seeker, but Asmund is against the idea, just like he's against the idea of any of the Outsiders, the non-Ice Gaolers, being allowed into our ranks.

I don't understand it. I thought the Gaolers were created to fight and contain the Shade. What does it matter what element they command? And why shouldn't I be a Seeker? I must have these powers for a reason, after all.

I will join the Seekers. I'll do it if I have to break out of the Fortress of Ends.
