Softstare and his trusted familiar Moslee were the first Ice-Island inhabitants to be actively recruited. When an accident left the island's patriarch, GentleMin, injured, the small community realized how poorly prepared they were for any emergencies or health issues. Reference, in an unexpected moment of selfless concern, told the group of an old clan-mate he'd grown up with who was studying medicine last they met. He recalled the dragon was talented and devoted, but easily overwhelmed in the crowds of the large clan. He might be willing to move to a smaller community with greater need. However, Reference left his home-clan on poor terms. He knew he would not be received well, and worse, he knew he did not have the skills to persuade his old peer to join him.

Arcturus stepped forward and offered to travel back with Reference. Together, they left the comforts of their new home for the lives they left behind.

When they reached Reference's old clan, it was to a cold welcome. Only allowed to remain because of Reference's lingering ties, the two were treated with suspicion and distaste by all who they met. Except Softstare.

This sweet, rosy coatl was lively and cheerful, so long as he was kept from a crowd. He was bright in mind and spirit as promised, but the overabundance of healers in his home-clan left him in a meager role despite his skill. It didn't take long to see the evidence of his other obstacle - his intense social anxiety amongst the heavily populated clan. When at prayer events or trainings, he became deadly still, wide-eyed, and completely silent.

Arcturus and Reference stayed in the hostile territory for days, telling Softstare of their home, the dragons there, and the need for his skill. Having never left the sheltering clan, Softstare hesitated time and again. It took a particularly viscous performance review from his mentor to convince Softstare he deserved a kinder home, and he set off for the unknown. At least, he'd help get Min back on his feet before deciding.

Just as with Reference, Softstare found no will to leave. The warm welcome he received, the gratitude given to him consistently, and the small nature of the community were all he'd wanted in a home.

Now he lives cheerfully in a brightly decorated home right in the midst of the island's center. In a calmer environment and with the support of his community, Softstare has made strides in dealing with his anxiety. It scarcely bothers him these days. He spends his time caring for the ice-island's residents, learning from the occasional traveler, and spending time with his friends.

Reference • friend

Softstare and Reference grew up in the same sheltered clan, although it was large enough that they only knew one another by reputation. On the Ice-Island, they are the best of friends, even if Reference is hesitate to admit that closeness. You'll find them discussing their studies over tea, when Softstare's work grants him breaks.

GoldenSun • friend..?

The tense and guarded GoldenSun had a difficult time adjusting the metaphorically warm atmosphere of the literally frigid Ice-Island. SoftStare's cheer, competence, and authenticity made him a trusted presence early on. Even as she grew more comfortable, the two continue to seek one another out. The island's eyes are quietly on the pair.
