In fact, Spell is older. And he always has been. His egg was laid on May 12th, collected after 5 days, and incubated by a female dragon for the next 5 days. As planned and exactly as it should be. Not too short, so his brain could fully develop, but not too long, so his muscles didn't lose their firmness. Later(of course after he made calculations again, just to be sure), he hatched. It was on May 22nd. He does not know who his parents are, or if he has any (apparently some Bogsneak eggs are brewed), he does not remember his life before the laying, but he remembers that he was collected in a dark forest after 5 lonely and cold days. On the same day, another Bogsneak egg was found on the other side of the lair. It was much larger, but also younger. As soon as both eggs were placed in a warm nest (next to the other dragon-mother's eggs), Spell decided to contact the baby dragon from the second orphaned egg. In the egg next to his, a much larger baby dragon was developing. It had no name yet. It had a low voice, which resonated very clearly through the contacting shells. So Spell took it for granted that it was a male dragon. 'I am ice element, and you?' His new friend told him. His story also implied that he had been laid two days before he was found in the woods. So Spell was older. He was older from the very beginning. His new friend looked very much like him. They determined that both of them had wings, and four legs, and a long tongue, and a tail. In the greenish light that sometimes shined through the shells, they also found that they had very similar colors. Then Spell came up with a plan. They will become twins. Maybe they didn't have the same parents (if they did have any parents at all), but they will try as long as they can have identical colors. They will become brother-friends. He - Spell - the wiser, and the Heavy (as Spell mentally called his foster brother) - the stronger. |

They determined (mostly Spell came to this conclusion) that they would have spearmint-colored bodies, camo wings, and mint markings. And - above all - that they will hatch on the same day. Spell explained that May 22nd would be the best day as that would be the 5th day from the start of incubation, the 10th from the laying of the Spell's egg and the 7th from the laying of the Heavy's. It was a very good plan. Reflecting on it, Spell fall asleep, satisfied in the warmth of their hardening shell. It was May 19th.
He woke up on May 22nd in the morning. He did his calculations again, made sure it was 10 days after the laying and 5 days after starting of nest-incubation. Furthermore, he found with satisfaction that his mental abilities had developed perfectly, and at the same time he felt the pleasant elasticity of his muscles. He began laboriously creating cracks in his shell.
The first person he saw in the pleasant twilight of the world he had just arrived was his brother, Heavy. Only there were no shells around. Frown and concerned, Spell saw the catastrophe and the collapse of his beautiful plan.
'Hello,' said his brother... Not exactly a brother. 'When you were knocking around in your egg, I chose to hatch. Especially since it was already the 5th day. Moreover, I gave myself a name. My name is Missspell. '
A disaster. And then, for the first time in his life, he ran out of words. Missspell was a name that described this dragon-friend very well. Missspell was not only a mistake in itself. Missspell was a female. Big, but quite short and with small wings. And she decided to name herself Miss-Spell.
"But ... but I thought we were going to be brothers!" Were the first words he managed to say after staring at Missspell for a long moment.
'I thought so too, but it turns out you are a boy.' She replied to him. And it didn't explain anything, just leaved Spell even more confused.
It was only then that he noticed that not only were they of the opposite gender, not only hatched on a different day, but Missspell also had different colors than planned. Her body was indeed spearmint, but it wasn't the wings that were camo, but the markings. And the wings, on the other hand, were flint. She mistook mint for flint...
'And ... and you told me that you're an ice element!' Said Spell after another pause.
'Yes, I am.' She replied.
'No you're not. You’re water! ’
'Oh, really? It was so cold when my egg was laid that I thought I am ice… But that’s ok with me, I won’t complain. ’
That's how they met.
