Biography

Beltiln
Nature Flight Representative, Spymaster

Most don't know it, but Beltiln was the original founder and leader of the now disbanded clan run by his mate, Brondelle. He founded the small clan in Nature territory, in a moment of excitement shortly after meeting Brondelle as young adults. However, Beltiln quickly discovered that leadership was not a trait he possessed. Quiet, aloof to the feelings of others, and often described as quite boring, Beltiln excelled at the administrative aspects of leading a clan, spending hours poring over scrolls and figures. All the while, ensuring that no dragon would choose to live in a clan with a leader who would barely notice their presence at all. However, Brondelle was quite the opposite; cheerful, charismatic, endlessly compassionate and very affectionate, so Beltiln hurriedly accepted her offer to lead in his stead.

Beltiln enjoyed his time researching and recording, running the paperwork related aspects of the clan Brondelle never cared for. He had always felt a very strong connection to the Gladekeeper, so strong he nearly chose exaltation many times. Once, during a great battle when the clan was young, he riled nearly all the clan into following the Gladekeeper's call, and led them personally to the Behemoth. Gladekeeper appeared to him then, and gave him a token of her gratitude. His body sprouted a life of its own. His wings, once rosy pink, sprouted the greenest moss, and the scales on his body, white as snow, began to grow much like bark. It was many many months before the natural adornments faded away but even then the colours remained, leaving him brown and green and rippled like the plants his beloved deity adored so much. Beltiln was proud beyond words, and devoted his life to the Gladekeeper, vowing to do her work, inspiring exalts and bringing them to her. He performed the task well, teaching many clan members what it means to follow the call that many felt so strongly within her domain.

Over time a second clan grew nearby, and when Dahlia grew to adulthood and began her pursuit of knowledge it was only natural the Beltiln became fast friends with the scholar. The two still spend hours together in the library, poring over new books and old parchment.
However, when Brondelle's Clan was attacked, almost destroyed by the evil Shade-touched dragon, Nebula, much changed for Beltiln. The clan joined in alliance with the other nearby, which had grown large enough to take in the wounded remains of their shattered clan. They moved together to Dragonhome, seeking peace in the lands of the Earthshaker. Beltiln found the move difficult, particularly because the call of the Gladekeeper was much weaker there. While he could still feel her presence, the call was not strong enough to draw regular clan members, drowned out by the steady song of the Earthshaker.

Brondelle, shattered by what she deemed a personal failure to protect her clan, struggled with her leadership before realizing that she would be happier and healthier if she wasn't a leader. Brondelle's clan disbanded, most dragons including the couple joining Peony's Clan in the cave where they already lived, The Cottontail Clan.

Beltiln found all the changes difficult, to say the least. Dahlia already performed the role of scholar and scribe to the clan, and exalts followed the path to Earthshaker here. He felt aimless, with nothing to do. However, it soon became apparent that the formerly peaceful life amongst the trees had been a sheltered one. On the cracked plains of Dragonhome, the clans were much more exposed to the comings and goings of the world. Conflicts, intrigue and potential threats were carried on the winds and Beltiln, having spent his life trading in information, found a new area to apply his skills. A drab scholar or a pious messenger of the Gladekeeper, however he chose to present himself, always posed an uninteresting image, especially on such a tiny, easily unnoticed Fae. He found that his skills at going unnoticed, honed for years out of a desire to avoid social interaction, served him well in gathering intelligence. The idea of the work thrilled him like his previous work as a scribe had not been able to.

He became a spymaster.

He has recruited others, who work with him to keep the clan safe and in a strong position. He still provides services as an envoy to the Gladekeeper, and that is his official position within the clan, but Brondelle, Peony, Dahlia and a few others know the truth. He is happy in his work, and doubly so to find that the life of a regular clan member suits he and his mate very well.
