A metallurgical assay is a compositional analysis of an ore, metal, or alloy, usually performed in order to test for purity or quality. It's Rirris' job to verify the authenticity of precious metals that originated outside of the clan. For example, if a gold necklace was bought from another clan, Rirris can check if it's real gold. Rumor has it that he's able to do this by simply sniffing and tasting the metal, but no one has actually witnessed him performing an analysis.
