born and raised in gem's rest, a small town in the western shattered plains, carya has always been surrounded by dirt and stone and strange magic. archeology is a popular field of research in earth flight, and growing up where he did gave him a leg up in such a competitive environment. he studied in the colonades of antiquity under quinn, a more bookish member of the dragonhome preservation guild. carya is more eager and enthusiastic than his mentor, occasionally letting her fervor and curiosity overpower the necessary caution at a digsite. carya is currently in the light flight territories for the solstice, a monumental pilgrimage for archeologists around the world.

story.
The sun glittered brightly on the waves as it began to peak above the horizon. The dark dots of vessels that have sailed this way for days now gain life once more, the details of their flag faint colors smeared on their silhouettes. The wind blowing over the cliffs will change soon as the glorious sun warms the soil, the shifting yellow grasses. Somewhere atop a crumbling tower, the Lightweaver observed with a telescopic eye, the lens a glinting guide for all who travel here. Carya had been in Light territory for almost two weeks now, and the day of highest sun had not yet passed. It itched at his scales in an unpleasant way--his master, Quinn, had urged him to be patient, but this was to be Carya's first visit to the Sundial Terrace, and he could barely contain his excitement. He set sail from the Colonnades of Antiquity much earlier than necessary, Quinn calling him "impulsive" and making it clear they would wait a more reasonable time before setting off to the Sunbeam Ruins with the other Earth scholars. Light dragons may tout themselves as truth seekers, but with how strictly they guard that knowledge it sours the sentiment. Upon his arrival, Carya's name, birth element, and place of residence were all recorded, as well as a brief sketch and description of his appearance. He was made to wear a lanyard marking him as a visitor for the solstice--earlier than the Light officials had anticipated, and Carya was asked repeatedly to show his credentials from the Dragonhome Preservation Guild. The war between the eleven flights felt everywhere, certainly. It was not news to Carya. But this was his first time really leaving Earth, and Dragonhome was strange on outsiders--the Earthshaker expects his children to treat all dragons as family, and the borders of the Earth flight are not nearly as strict as the rest of the worlds. |
