Present

Tremors shook the earth violently as branches and roots sprouted, ever unpredictably growing in the harsh environment of the Pox Consulate. The jungle had become a breeding ground for new, aggressive plants, and with that their growth made the ground tremble, fighting for the rare patches of sunlight peeking through the canopy. And as battle for life continued, something deep within the chaos stirred, and magic boomed.

Rocks and boulders tumbled down from the walls of the cave, revealing the very precious pocket of space where Ergo lay sleeping. Beams of sunlight filtered through the cracks, dancing across his face and finally, finally ending his slumber.

Ergo groaned and twisted, rolling over so his face was so longer assaulted by the brightness. It was already ruined though; his nap. Now he'd have to wake up and start a new day. A new, boring, tiring day.

He slowly stretched his legs, feeling oddly stiff and unused to his body. His legs barely obeyed him, almost buckling under him as he tried to get up and get ready to do something.

"Wait, wait, wait," he gasped as he realized where he was. He tried to stand up more quickly, instead losing his balance and sliding off his perch.

He landed on the ground hard, as his wings didn't seem to be wanting to work either. He simply laid for a few seconds, pondering why he was even awake. They were supposed to be asleep for the next few centuries!

"Peruro! Wake up!" He snapped, tilting his head so he could glare at the giant form of his partner from where he laid. "Your stupid spell didn't work!"

Of course, Peruro didn't wake up. She was quite enjoying her sleep, and a dragon the size of a bug was definitely not going to ruin it for her.

He grumbled a curse under his breath and started shifting slowly, regaining the feeling in his limbs slowly. Very, very slowly.

After about an hour or two of just... feeling around, his body seemed to finally decide that it was time to wake up and get moving, which is exactly what he did.

First order of business: after every good nap you must stretch and yawn. Those were the rules Ergo lived by, and he wasn't about to break them anytime soon. He deserved a good stretch after having to suffer through hours of doing nothing but boring little wiggles, and made sure he was feeling his best as he did his routine and then yawned.

Second order of business: er, where are we? He looked around, his eyes narrowed against the darkness. Still in a gross, damp cave just like how they left it. Except, now there was a... stench. Something smelled of rot, rotting leaves and decomposing plants. He didn't remember that when he went to sleep, however long ago.

He frowned, looking up at the places where the rocks had fell, creating a hole in the roof. It almost seemed too perfect; how circular the hole was and how the light cast down right onto the pair. He wondered briefly if someone actually did that, or if it was just an earthquake or something similar.

He decided that was silly and it didn't really matter in the end. He was awake now and that was what mattered. Oh, and Peruro needed to wake up too. That was also very important.

Now... how to wake a sleeping Banescale?

He trotted over to her snout, staring up at her giant head. He mulled over how he was going to do this without getting burnt to death. Peruro had been known for her fiery temper.

He eventually came to a conclusion. He crept up to one of her eyes and stopped to appreciate how nice and quiet and peaceful she was when she was sleeping. It was almost perfect like this.

Then he proceeded to bite her eyelid, pulling it until he felt her move. He quickly let go, hoping by the Gladekeeper that she did not turn her head.

A ball of fire barely missed him as she stood, her jaws agape and smoking.

"Why'd you do that?!" Peruro roared, one of her wings coming up to rub at her eye.

"How come you can stand just like that?!" Ergo snarled at the same time, slapping his tail against the ground. "It took me hours to get my legs going!"

"Doesn't matter, I'll kill you for that!" She growled.

"Yeah, yeah." He rolled his eyes. "Like you'd actually. Consider it payback for when you stabbed me in my eye. Remember?"

"'Course I remember," she scoffed. "you never let me forget." She lowered her wing and looked around, seeming to notice where she was. She blinked at her surroundings. "Huh. Right. Where are we?"

"The cave. The stupid, boring one you picked out that we've been sleeping in for..." he trailed off, frowning. Wait. Just how long had they been asleep?
