✧ Lore ✧
The tapping of claws on the table wormed it's way into Elm's brain. It had been a long day, made longer by the fact that the Queen seemed unable to sit still, always fidgeting with something or other. Elm could hardly blame her, given the fact they had been stuck in this boardroom for most of the day, in a long, strenuous attempt to figure out how to make it stop raining.
It may have sounded silly, but it had been pouring nonstop for just over a week, and slowly the clan grounds had began to flood. Already the nestihg grounds had sunk below the rising tides of floodwater, and the eggs had had to be evacuated to the safety of the turrets.
Though the meeting had gone for quite a while, the Bellaria Council had yet been unable to come up with a foolproof plan. As an Arcane aligned clan, of course there were sorcerer's and magicians among them, but as of the last attempt to use magic to solve a problem (which had failed in a way no dragon was eager to recall), there had been an uneasiness surrounding the suggestion of magic use on such a large scale.
Elm had zoned out long ago by the time the meeting ended and the council began to disperse, leaving the room to track down the spiralling staircase back to the rest of the Clan. Soon it was only her and Bella left, but as Elm stood to leave, the Queen began to speak.
"Look, I don't know about you, but I fear that this may never end without us taking some kind of action. Surely it would be better to at least try to enchant the sky back to normal?"
Elm's pretty face creased into a frown as she considered it. The Queen could be impulsive, and it was usually best to advise her against these fancies of hers, but then again, this time she had a point. It would only get worse if they didn't do something.
"Would you like me to call the council back in?"
Bella chuckled at that.
"If I'd wanted to say this to them, I would have said it, but they'd only have disagreed anyway. I may be the Queen, but I can't act against all of them. No, better for it to be just us."
"Then what have you planned?"
"A simple potion should do the trick."
"A potion? That's seems a little too easy, wouldn't we have thought of that before now if the answer was so simple?"
"Well... There may be a tad of dark magic involved."
"Then we must not use it! You know as well as I do what could happen if-"
"Nothing bad will happen. As your Queen, I can assure you that I know what I am doing. Trust me, will you Elm?"
Elm sighed a little, squeezing her eyes as she felt the defiance leave her.
"Alright. Where do we start?"

Wind blustered into Elm's face as they stood atop the Starfell Tower, the tallest turret of the Clan's intricate complex of towers and halls. It was said that a powerful star had fallen on this very spot many years ago, and so as well as being the centre of the Clan's grounds it was also the most powerful spot to cast spells.
Bella held up a small, glowing book, it's wrinkled pages covered in scrawled writing. They had gathered the ingredients, and as the rain continued to hammer down, Elm poured each item into the Queen's engraved silver cauldron. Apparently Bella had been practicing for a while, and despite Elm's concerned scolding, her reply had simply been an amused "What's the worst that could happen? The shade returning?"
As she tipped the last enchanted feather into the bubbling mix, coils of lilac steam began to rise into the sky.
"It's working!" Bella exclaimed, a sparkle in her eyes as she watching the clouds shimmer and turn a pale shade of violet.
Elm shrieked as something hard pelted her back, covering her head with her wings to defend from whatever had hit her. But a moment later as she withdrew them, she was met with an astonishing sight. The sky had cleared, and the floods had by some miracle of magic disappeared, and all that was left was a littering of of silvery crystal raindrops sprinkled across the land. As she turned to Bella, their eyes met in awe.
A voice from below made her freeze, and she peered over the edge of the turret to see the rest of the council gathered in the courtyard, arguing over the anomaly.
They would have some explaining to do, but for now at least the Clan was safe. The Queen smiled at her, and began her way back down the spiral staircase. It was nothing she couldn't handle, nothing she hadn't already done before. Elm smiled to herself, and followed.
