There's so many ways to give in, Another way to make it to ten.

Marshfang was born a survivalist. No. That wasn’t quite right. Marshfang was FORCED to be a survivalist. Born in a world that was savage and cruel. To keep herself alive, she was forced to adapt and overcome. To grow stronger.

And stronger she became.

She fought. She raked her claws and bared her teeth. She hardened her scales and licked her wounds. Alone, she became a creature that could not die. Alone.

Bettering herself became her sole companion for many years. Many dragons came across her path. Some came to fight, others came for protection. And all had left. Finding her too distant to be comfortable around. The one thing that never left, however, was the satisfaction of overcoming hardship. Of becoming stronger.

Of surviving it all.

And then something different happened. There was a dragon who did not leave. Then there were more. And more. And more than she could keep track of. In the blink of an eye, she became the center of all these strange creatures.

She was no leader, of course, but this newborn clan had deemed her so. She was no hoarder, never had been, but her resources continued to grow. More resources than she knew what to do with. Resources that were better suited to the dragons who surrounded her than an old beast like her.

When she couldn’t take it anymore, she demanded why they stayed. What did they see in a grizzled, angry beast like her?

“You understand us.”

The words were plainly said, but the message was clear. Marshfang saw herself in these people. Her younger self. Her oblivious, unknowing self before she became the experienced survivalist she is today.

These dragons were trying to survive this savage and cruel world. Some were bad. Others, experienced. Most, simply innocent and naive. Yet all were doing their hardest to continue forward. These were dragons that needed to be guided and Marshfang was their experienced teacher.

Their leader.
