"Everything came from stardust, everything was built from stardust, and everything will return to stardust."

The sky is a beautiful thing, with many mysterious faces; some as dark as shadow, others swathed by fleecy clouds, and even more as beautifully clear as water. So it's no wonder that Mikau has fallen into a sort of obsession—or, to put it kindly, reverence—with it, often speaking of everything he's discovered about the sky to uninterested clanmates. The clan leader is rather jittery, as well as liable to temper tantrums that aren't pretty and often involve throwing things, but he's learning to pour it on the poor Coliseum monsters instead of his clanmates.

Mikau has developed nocturnal habits for the sole purpose of astronomy, as the nighttime face of the sky is decorated with stars. He often resides in his makeshift observatory, so he can study—usually alongside Lucida—these mysterious specks of light while he isn't sleeping. Sometimes, though, he insists on visiting newborn hatchlings and naming them after the current star of his interest. The Fae doesn't know what he seeks in the stars, but he knows that one day everyone will return to the state of the stardust from which they were born.

Mikau's tale began in The Cloudsong. He was an egg of no parents—now, he chooses to believe that he came from the stars—and a hatchling of no purpose. He never liked to wander far from his "home", made up of the inside of a fallen hot air balloon. The Fae could easily catch insects and other foods in his area; instinct drove him, and his body complied. Despite having no adult around to mentor him, Mikau grew strong and healthy. However, his emotions were not quite as developed; he'd lived his first few months in complete isolation, with no one to talk to and no one to show him the social "norm". He was often angry and was never used to other dragons around; if anyone was nearby, Mikau would get nervous and jumpy.

Despite how he usually hated leaving his home, Mikau's Wind nature called to him. The youngling eventually bid his lonely den good-bye and set off on a meaningless journey. Though he didn't realize this at the time, his decision to travel fastened his fate with another's: a similar wanderer, drifting aimlessly around the Windswept Plateau.

They were bound to meet sometime, and meet they did. Mikau was roaming the Reedcleft Ascent when he ran into a Mirror, Heartsong, drawn away from her vicious pack and violent past. After a bit of talking—Mikau curious, Heartsong wary—the two realized they had a lot in common. They were both on journeys. They both believed that they descended from the stars.

So it felt natural when Mikau and his new-found friend didn't want to leave each other. Instead, they decided to form a clan: the Clan of Crossing Stars. They modeled the lair and dens after Mikau's former home, using rubble and broken hot air balloons to turn a wreckage into a beautiful new home. Now, the clan has many different members. Mikau is never lonely, and he can watch the stars for as long as he wants, surrounded by the silent company of others.
