B I O G R A P H Y

This dragon was born to a clan who idealized the First Age, and he was named 'Reverence' upon hatching as an homage to the dragon gods. Since he could talk, Reverence was an endless stream of questions, demanding answers beyond the First Age that his elders and peers studied. His interests pushed him to study beyond this era, sometimes in secret to avoid the judgmental gaze of his clan. He found the gods to be flawed, even foolish, as he learned of their attempt and failure to protect the world from themselves. He resented being named in their honor, in being part of a community so endeared to them.

Once old enough, Reverence left his clan to scour the world for more knowledge. He sought to learn as much about the world and the universe as he could. He changed his name to 'Reference' at this point, a final act of defiance against his clan.

Cold and distant, Reference struggled to get along in the places he visited. He accumulated his own hoard of academic resources, books and colleagues, but never friends nor allies. He found himself scarcely welcome in any space for his curt manner and general disinterest in socializing, which only left him all the more alone.

B I O G R A P H Y

In his studies and travels, he eventually learned of a marvelous adventurer - Tundra dragon who had traveled the world several times over, exploring and aiding and undoubtedly learning. He spent years collecting clues about this dragon amidst his other research until he tracked her to an ice-island northeast of the Southern Icefield.

He was surprised and perhaps disappointed to find the adventurer all but retired and caring for her first nest of eggs with her partner, a rather boring and simple dragon. Despite his displeasure and comments, the boring dragon welcomed him into their home. Reference stayed for a time, first only to interview - or perhaps interrogate in his way - the former adventurer now known as Ladymaam. He was often roped into helping the couple maintain their home, which he begrudgingly did in return for food and shelter. His intent to leave grew more and more ambiguous, until Min built Reference his own homestead nearby. It was the kind dragon's only passive-aggressive action perhaps ever, but Reference took no offence and moved into this new home.

Now he lives, as peacefully as he can, on the ice-island. His studies continue endlessly, but here no one begrudges him even if they do annoy him. He enjoys his reading and his tea, and he has slowly used sharing tea as an opportunity to ask new and passing by dragons about their travels. He may never be a socialite, but Reference has carved himself a welcome space on the island. He remains the only dragon who knows Ladymaam's original name, but has been sworn to secrecy. It is perhaps the only secret he is capable of keeping.
