Biography
Grand Librarian Ireth
Eldyth and Ireth came to the Hewn city with nothing but a few scraps of old, torn parchment. They were searching for a home, a place to establish their own clan and live our their lives. What they found was an ancient ruin filled with shelves. Whatever had once filled the shelves was long gone, rotted away to ruin and ash.
It took them weeks to clear and clean the ruins. Some of what they found inside they sold, and used the treasure to enlist the help of other dragons. When every inch of the ruins had been cleared, cleaned and scrubbed, they settled in and began arranging their lair into a home.
Ireth had learned early on that fighting smart was often more valuable than fighting hard. she's strong, and careful pre-planning has let her walk away from fights she should have lost. she has a plan for everything, and doesn't let small setbacks get in her way. Knowledge is the key to success, and is transmitted through the written word.
As they scavenged the world in search of treasure, every dragon sent out was given one specific order, no matter what else they searched for that day, writing was the top priority. Any paper they could find. On the shelves they piled up hundreds of parchments, some pristine, and perfect, others torn and ruinous. They gathered ancient scroll cases to contain them, and organized them by topic.
Ireth is the record keeper of the flight. While Eldyth makes most of the decisions, Ireth is the one who records results, gathers data, and presents him with the information to do so. if Ireth's data disagrees with Eldyths decisions, those decisions change. Some say that for this reason she's the real power in the flight, but she insists that it's a joint effort. the truth is she's perfectly happy to let Eldyth run things, as it frees her to maintain her records without being constantly interrupted to deal with the day to day trivialities.
The clan grew, eventually they began to find volumes, stacks of paper bound together on one side into thick volumes. Ireth saw potential. Gathering paper into established volumes would keep organized information perminantly organized. there would be no more tragic accidents of piled records scattered across the floor by the wind mage, or the latest brood of hatchlings. While all paper was valuable, books were to be considered sacred. They were gifts handed down from the Lightweaver herself. The Clan grew larger as stories of their collection grew. Acolytes from all walks of life came to learn.
For a time, Ireth helped train the acolytes, but as the clan grew her record keeping took more and more of her time. it took her only a few minutes of analysis and planning to realize that taking on a few additional professors would be in everyone's best interest.
