Biography
For Pirate
The Pirate has always belonged to the sea.
When one grows up on the docks of Cutler Hill, sea spray is worn around the neck like perfume. Salt clings, and had always clung to the Pirate’s long hair—damp enough for it to cling to his back, but light enough that it still flows on the beach’s whim. For the longest time, he figured he owned the ocean. The ships were to thank for that, great hulking things that the Pirate could sail with his eyes closed and mouth sealed, for he knew the turns based solely off the sound of the wind against the rushing water, could hear the echo of waves a hares breath from land.
At least, that’s what he had always figured—the Pirate’s distance from the sun didn’t make him immune to Icarus’ fall, and the ocean is immeasurably deep.
But the sea has kind hands when the time comes. The ocean can lift just as well as it can drown, and from the broken pieces of his once great ship, the Pirate clung to his board like it would carry him home. Days, weeks with nothing but water, undrinkable, and unbearably hot, alone except for the ocean in every direction—
And yet, he felt calm. The rocking of water was soothing, like the draining of water from one side of the glass to the other, as peaceful as being surrounded by a loved one, and engulfed entirely. It was only when he reached land, the Pirate realized he didn’t want to leave.
The Pirate has always belonged to the sea.
And one of its great mysteries was about to find him.
