and his clan, called Guacamole

Along with his mate Virtue, Merit is the Progenitor and leader of Clan Guacamole, named for the shared undertones of tasty avocado which lurk in his and Virtue's genes.

The clan is both laid-back and always busy, dragons bustling with duties and experiments of their own interests and callings. It possesses its share of scholars and mages, but also intrepid adventurers who desire the thrill of exploration, or just a good brawl.

Merit and Virtue are still looked up to as Progenitors, and their decision on any major matter is viewed as final. Though neither of them are particularly aggressive or warlike, they have managed to adopt some more boisterous individuals, and now have a military wing lead by the mirror Arao, whom one way or another managed to have the title 'Warleader' stick to him even though the clan has never waged war against anybody.

Beneath Arao are several Battleleaders. Foremost among them is Dairo, the humble white coatl. Together with Sigarni the skydancer and Magnus the guardian, they are the dragons responsible for the day-to-day training of hatchlings and adolescents who show a penchant for adventure, to ready them for when Arao will pit them against the perils of the Mire.

Some of the dragons engage more in adventure and exploration than battle. Caleb delves deep into caves and likely-looking ruins, seeking artifacts and reagents. Zoa tends to the various familiars of the clan, ensuring that they are well-fed and cared for.

In the more scholarly wing of the lair, research and development is headed by Merit himself, and by Honour, First Daughter of the clan, and a great inventor in her own right. Numerous scholars, inventors, and mages come to study and contemplate a variety of subjects within the caves carved deep into arcanite cliffs. There is sometimes a degree of overlap in dragons who study magic but who also are better known for their other pursuits; most notable of these is Sigarni and her daughter Zoa, who study the magic to be found in runes.

There are many dragons who do little more than laze around and look pretty. Were the clan headed by different dragons, these might be whipped into shape more aggressively...but Merit is kind and lenient, and views all the various talents of the dragons in his lair as being but facets of light cast by the same crystal, as different stars in the same sky.
