Biography
Why Leave?
Why did the Circuit Breakers leave the Charged Barrens? Simple. They were bought out by a richer clan. Why didn't they dispute it? With WHAT money? Why didn't they all leave as a group and go to the same place? Difference of opinion.
Why Just One Nest?
Why have just one nest? The Circuit Breakers were concerned the Scarred Wasteland, particularly Quarantine Zone #128, might not be the best place to raise a family since they themselves were not Plague-born. Why not raise more nests in the Ashfall Wastes? Have YOU ever tried to care for three Spiral hatchlings at once? Why go back to the Quarantine Zone? They decided they were better researchers than parents anyway.
Why Quarantine Zone #128?
Why not? It's the best place for Science outside of the Shifting Expanse! ...Like they'd ever go the the Starfall Isles to get actual Science done. And clearly they weren't fit for the Ashfall Wastes. Isn't that more dangerous? Well, disease you can treat and get better from. You can't get better from LAVA!
What IS the Shadebane Project?
What are you, a Gaoler? That's classified information!
Harvest
Breaker surveyed the area. This section of the Scarred Wasteland was rich with established clans and ancient lairs. Perfect for what he had planned. Or, more accurately, what Circuit had planned. Near the Hellwell Undercroft, a castle loomed in the distance. Nearby, a mystic and an alchemist tended a clutch of three eggs. While the two Veilspun were distracted, Breaker made his move at the nest.
One egg was all they needed, for now. Just one would do.
Hatching
Regular "incubations" had taken place since Breaker returned with the recently acquired egg. Immersed in a dark fluid, the egg appeared unaffected by it. To say Circuit was displeased by the apparent resilience of the egg was an understatement. To that end, she was working on a device to... remedy this problem once the egg hatched. Something that all their instruments told them would happen soon.
Breaker pulled a lever at the nearby control panel, and a claw descended from the ceiling to grab the egg. Removing the egg from the tank, Breaker guided the claw to a makeshift nest, made up of just enough material to keep the soft egg safe from damage. No sooner did he release the egg than the hatching began. The dragonet began to writhe and force its way out of the capsid-like shell. Slick with off-color amniotic fluid, the hatchling blinked, looking around for its parents. Moving silently, Breaker took a syringe off the table, filled it with a sedative, and jabbed it against the newborn's neck.
Steeling himself for what was to come next, he strapped the hatchling to a table cart, and wheeled it towards the injector.
Containment Breach
Months of testing later, the test subject had grown powerful, and was the perfect prototype for Circuit's new weapons. She had already sent in orders for new equipment from the Shifting Expanse, and was more than ready to send Breaker put to steal eggs of much larger breeds. There was research to be done, after all. The prototype test subject had been put into another, larger tank to make room for the new influx of eggs. Breaker hated going into the tank room now, if for no other reason than the hateful glare the test subject gave him.
It had been a fairly normal, routine status check. Breaker had been taking notes on the test subject's statistics and vitals, making sure it had the bare minimum to keep it in testing condition. He turned his back on the tank momentarily, to secure a loosened valve on the side of one of the new tanks, when a crash thundered behind him. Turning back around would be a mistake, as shards of glass narrowly missed his eyes and wings. Fluid spilled everywhere, and he barely reached the alarm button before the test subject darted out the exit door.
Security swept the area, but the escaped test subject evaded them at every turn, leaving considerable property damage in its wake. As the outermost perimeter was breached, the security team poured into the Wastes, swarming in their search. The test subject was never found, but the Shadebane Project continued on as if nothing had ever happened.
