Death did not favor anyone. It did not give favors. That’s what Azrael had thought, and that’s what he had believed in.

Yet, those who fearlessly stood before him with greed swirling in their eyes, Azrael couldn’t help but laugh.

Why not give them a chance at divinity? For the right price—their soul—they could have everything they’ve ever wanted.

With the weight of the sins on their back, they couldn’t—and wouldn’t—escape. Azrael’s followers were much like dogs, willing to have a chain leashed upon them should a fragment of gratitude appear in their being.

Though, unlike what his followers thought, Azrael’s ‘gift’ was more of a curse than a blessing. Their body changed to match his own spirit—midnight scales with glittering stars and the chilliness in their eyes, a window to their captured soul.
