In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don't ever shine...


Actually the sun shines a lot in these pines. Up high in the interior hills, the sun bakes the fallen pines in summer, and the wind blasts them in winter. The wood is stripped and bleached to silver, not so much decaying as disappearing over long years.

She represents the dried and silvered wood of fallen pine trees up in the hills where we used to camp when I was small. We only went in the summer, when the air was hot, but she's up there all year, in the dry altitude. It doesn't snow all that much, the wind sucks the moisture out of the air and everything else in winter, and in the summer it bakes and bleaches. A slow and stark kind of decay!
