Biography
lore wip
- it's ok to have a crush on Athanasius, we've all had a crush on Athanasius
- goes by Z since his name is ridiculously long
- a "necro-engineer" (self-titled) who specializes in using artifacts to summon the souls of the dead back into the living world and then giving those souls a new body in the form of a construct, which he calls a casing. Souls who come back this way often don't remember who they once were, but after a while they will start to remember. Some can't handle that stress and beg to be released, which Z does. Others have stuck with him and accepted their second lives. Is this ethical? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- has gone through a lot of constructs over the years and summoned their souls from all over Sorenith. He used to use old Shadow rituals to hold the casings together, but has since moved away from this as he got better at using Lightning, Arcane, and Fire tech. Hearth is the last Shadow construct he has. He's made constructs out of other flight's tech as well, but they're not always as stable. Trying to put a Shade in a construct was perhaps the worst mistake he ever made, and not something he's eager to repeat.
- helped build the arcane engine Sky's team was using to power the seam ripper. Summoned two souls, Merlin and Morgana, to be the "fuel" for this engine (though he stressed to everyone that they would not be destroyed in the sense that fuel is destroyed. It would be more akin to water powering a generator. Or a hamster running on a wheel.) He was away when the team tried to test it, and when he returned the lab was a wreck and only Lantern was left. Lantern explained what happened, and he has vowed to tear Sky a new one if those idiots ever manage to make it back. He's trying to figure out a way to contact them, but he's woefully under-qualified for this.
- is especially worried about Sunny, his apprentice, and he really really hopes that Sunny didn't try to prove that he could handle something he couldn't, thus exploding the engine and disappearing everyone. (Spoiler alert, that's exactly what happened....more or less)
- flirts mercilessly with Jimmy, the nomad he ran into out in the desert before the team went missing. Jimmy swears he doesn't enjoy it.
- for a mage he is strangely athletic. (Because I didn't even think about stating him as a mage for coli, whoops lmao)
- originally took on an apprentice because when he dies, he wants someone to put HIM in a construct body (because what self-respected mad scientist isn't also after immortality?) Has he told Sunny about this? Absolutely not.

When the maelstrom around you dies down, you instantly feel disoriented. The cluttered workshop has disappeared, and for a moment you expect to find yourself trapped in some hellish void. Then you feel warm sunlight on your face and you open your eyes.
This place is certainly not a void, but you're not entirely convinced that you're back home, either. The loose sand is certainly barren, but this is not the desert you remember. Resting amongst the glittering sand dunes are shards of crystalline glass that scatter the light around you into fantastic rainbow colors. Some shards are small, casting delicate dapples of light on the dunes. Others are bigger than you are, and they bathe the ground in heavy sheets of color. As you wander through the maze, you realize this isn't a regular formation: this is a debris field. And the further you go, the larger the shards become. Before long, you find yourself picking through scraps of metallic wreckage in addition to the glass. Trapped in one of the larger shards, you see one half of a metal workbench. The other half has been sheared off and lays in a twisted heap at the shard's base.
You also realize that you're not alone. At the heart of the debris field - the presumed center of whatever massive explosion ripped through here - you find a makeshift campsite built from as much of the salvageable wreckage as possible. You realize there could have been an entire building here before disaster struck. Where else would the site's residents have found enough sheet metal to construct these lean-tos?
There have to be nearly a dozen dragons here - though you're not sure if you can call all of them dragons in the strictest sense - but none of them seem to have noticed you yet. None except for one: a lavender Wildclaw dressed in black and gold. He doesn't seem entirely happy to see you.
"Well," he mutters, "You're certainly not supposed to be here."
