The Alchemist
"I'm an alchemist" is what Nerys told her former clanmates when they managed to corner her and ask her what she does. Giving them an actual answer wasn't worth her precious time. In reality, the Skydancer dabbles in many disciplines. Alchemy, engineering, inventing, necromancy...to name just a few. None of them needed to know. Besides, if they had saw what her work entailed earlier, she could have risked losing not only her then home, but all that she'd managed to cultivate since arriving to the Steppes.
Nerys believes that morals get in the way of the pursuit of knowledge. It's why she hated Jupiter, who's morals kept the scholar from ever involving herself in what she studies. What's the point of learning if you never use it for anything? Nerys wondered. The only one she arguably respected in the No-Name Clan was Alatar.
Back before Nerys had abandoned the clan, both Holtz and Kylda had attempted to talk to her as fellow inventors. Nerys couldn't stand them. While her dislike of them was not perhaps as intense as her distaste for Jupiter, she couldn't understand how the Spiral and Guardian wasted their respective skills on projects that were so...unambitious. The Skydancer didn't spend too much time dwelling on the matter, though. Doing so would have be a waste and kept her from tapping into something extraordinary.
Which Nerys and Alatar eventually did. Having found the seal between realities created--unknowingly to them--by Kristhyra, the two dragons worked hard to open it. When they eventually did, all chaos broke loose. To only Alatar's horror, an arcane eldritch being slipped into this version of the Sornieth. Nerys remembers being fascinated as she watched the Being possess Alatar. While the Skydancer regretted nothing, she realized that this might be a power even she could not control. So she fled to survey the matter from a distance. It wasn't like the clan would likely welcome her back after they found out what she did.
After the Being was contained, Nerys wandered, searching for a new place to call home. It was during this time the Skydancer met Ubel, a violent Guardian who shared her ambition and found that Nerys was his charge. Now essentially armed with a powerful bodyguard, Nerys made a base in the Shifting Expanse. Anyone who protested was dealth with by Ubel.
As time has gone on, other dragons interested in science--and who have dubious morals--have joined Nerys and Ubel. Together they scheme and create what others would rather they not.
