Imane is Dyslexic, which is ultimately why he chose (initially) to train in close combat instead of a magical discipline. He inherited frankly the best attributes of both of his parents, Aria's sturdy build and quick reflexes, and Kihor's intense attunement to magic and penchant for clever, on-the-fly strategizing. As a youth, he didn't know how to explain what he saw whenever he tried to read, so eventually he just chose the career path that would require the least interaction with written text. I think later, once he finally manages to get that figured out, he and Atlas start working on different methods of record keeping and information exchange. This will ultimately lead to a career shift as it were, and Imane will probably take a particular interest in alchemy
