He was almost upon her when she finally sensed him, turning quickly in surprise, realizing with a huff that it was her mate who disturbed her reverie. He swallowed a chuckle at her reaction. The dragoness turned away from him as quickly as she had spun to face him, choosing instead to gaze at the eggs resting on a warm bed of sand before her. "Calypso..." he murmured. She huffed again in response. "One setback is just that... you will overcome it. We will overcome it, together." "I know." Her words were so soft he scarcely heard them. Content, then, that she would build herself back up from this, he looked to the hatching sands. "Who's brood is this one, then? I doubt they'll be hatching soon else Eleutho would be here, hovering." The tension left her shoulders almost immediately, and after a moment she began to divulge all she knew about the three eggs. As she spoke, her tone quiet but confidant, tinged with hope for the future, the Imperial reaffirmed what he had known already: his mate was going to be alright. o

o B I O G R A P H Y o abcA mercenary with morals, Actaeus was once a famous champion in the Longneck's arena, south of the Hewn City. Seeking to capitalize on his reputation, and eager to see more of Sornieth than arena fighting could offer him, Actaeus left his competitive fighting days behind. The Imperial became well-known out in the field quickly enough - once he hit his stride, finding work was never an issue. abcSoon enough he found himself hired by an avaricious fellow named Zylenis. The Guardian's own merc crew, Sornieth's Striders, needed extra brawn for a job and Actaeus was more than happy to add to his own coffers by signing on. Things changed, of course, on that fateful day he met up with the Striders, eager to start their journey together. The moment he laid his eyes upon her, upon Calypso, a teal dream walking the waking world, his life's course was forever altered. abcThough she was standoffish at first, the two became close quicker than any of her fellows would have expected. Soon they were... well, more ithan close. But circumstances intervened and time passed, and as things often do, what the pair had fell apart. For Actaeus, life moved on... perhaps just a little darker than it had before, his world somewhat drained of color. That is, until, he received her letter. abcHe was more than eager to serve at her side, to see her again, to help her achieve her ends. And when they met again, what they still felt for one another was undeniable, unavoidable. Yet again, the two fell in love. The rest is history. abcThese days Actaeus is practically cemented at Calypso's side, earning him the moniker the Matriarch's Shadow. iHe accompanies his mate through thick or thin, whether he is there to be her advisor, her bodyguard, or simply her most reliable companion. His dedication to his beloved is strengthened by his natural resolve, wisdom, and sheer physical power on the battlefield. abcActaeus serves his clan as a highly proficient soldier and can occasionally be found training new initiates in the Refuge Arena or standing guard over the clan's Hatchery... when his position allows him the time for it, anyway. Stone-faced and analytical minded but loyal to a fault, his softer side is only ever brought out in the company of his mate, his daughters, or his closest friends. When she was newly hatched, in the days the clan itself was young and only just getting started, it was not unusual to see Actaeus patrolling the established passageways, his gate slow, eyes full of patience and pride, with a tiny violet Guardian by his side. abcThey stumbled upon Jasper on one of these little adventures, a sickly hatchling of his own species abandoned to the elements, and with the cave jewel Rhiannon immediately felt a kinship. She needn't have begged her father to take him in but she did so anyway, and soon enough he was a part of the family. It quickly became apparent that the young reptile had imprinted on Actaeus as a sort of surrogate mother, perhaps due to the large Imperial's role in saving his life, perhaps due to their similarities in coloration. It didn't really matter in the end - the result was the same. The lizard has dogged Actaeus's footsteps ever since. abcWhen it comes to temperament, Jasper is an eager, loyal companion. The creature has proven himself a near effortless tag-a-long to have around thanks to his affectionate good nature and relative intelligence. Indeed, Actaeus may have trained the cave jewel to do a few tricks for the fun of it, but more importantly Jasper is clever enough to be quite useful when needed and can follow directional commands, fetch, and even run simple errands. Not that it matters in the end. Actaeus would be fond of him regardless. o Animals are such agreeable friends - they ask no questions; they pass no criticisms. i

Dotes on his daughters whenever possible, spoils them really. Oh! And his secret weakness...? Dragons whisper that he has a secret obsession with the shiny things in life. They say he even has a hoard hidden away in a back chamber somewhere! Guess we'll never know for sure~
