Yes, you are here to talk about hatchlings. That is totally the reason why you're at this clan, and not because some angry Mirror harried you into going on your way.
You are
He continues to smile benevolently at you.
After a few moments of him just smiling at you, and you just standing there awkwardly, you hesitantly repeat the question again, just in case he's hard of hearing. He nods enthusiastically, that beatific smile never leaving his face. You begin to wonder if this Coatl is actually centuries older than he looks. Or no, maybe he just has premature memory loss?
You think about stammering an excuse and leaving the scene, when suddenly a light seems to flicker to life behind this Coatl's eyes and he says in a wonderous voice, "Oh! Hatchlings! Yes, I am one you must see about business."
That's when you realize that he's not hard of hearing or loopy: he just has a hard time translating to the common tongue.
It's as if this revelation has turned on some activity switch in him; he flutters anxiously around the room, rifling through stacks of trinkets and odd materials before emerging from a dusty pile with some parchment and some ink. The pieces of parchment appear to be drawings of hatchlings that have come through the clan to be exalted; Swiftrunner shows them to you with pride.
"Very lovely, very sweet," he says of one little Fae girl, "and very hungry."
Eventually he finds a blank piece of parchment, and he hovers the quill over the paper and looks expectantly up at you.
You stare back at him blankly.
His smile wilts a little as he says in a timid, dejected voice, "Might better if find someone who speak better."
He begins to panic a little; his voice climbs a few octaves and he begins gasping for breath, reaching out a wing to lean on you. "Get doctor. Please," he manages to gasp out, pointing you down the hall.
Not sure what else to do, you decide to take your leave.
He dreams of travelling the world one day, but he's needed more back at the lair to help out with hatchlings. To make up for his lack of travels, Swiftrunner has taken up collecting as a hobby. It would be a nuisance to the rest of his denmates, but luckily he has a knack for finding uses for trinkets.
He doesn't speak very well, unless it's in his native tongue. He's most talkative to Calliope, who understands it.
He and Pectin are very good friends, and often Pectin will bring back trinkets for Swift that he found in his travels. Some day, they decide, when things are a little less hectic with the clan, Swiftrunner will be able to journey to Ashfall Waste, home of the Coatls.
