VIRULENCE
"One of the most well known debates in biology is the argument of whether or not viruses are alive. While viruses can be made up of biological substances such as proteins, RNA, and DNA, they lack certain qualifications for counting as 'life'. For one, they are unable to reproduce on their own, and require a host in order to replicate. Another quality they lack is metabolism; they do not require the consumption of energy in order to live. Despite these traits, many would agree that viruses closely resemble what proto-life would have looked like before the first cells came to be."
