Darkleer

Darkleer was the first to enter the clan as a member of a different flight. He was brought here by a map his parents had given him, and he was guided by the crackle of lightning from the clan which he was born into. It was a long journey for him, but his proud parents had urged him to go. The longest journey for him, however, was settling into the just-created clan. He had been born into a cold, industrious place, filled with machines and bare of trees, and entering the kind, sheltering expanse of trees was something that took him a long time to get used to. When he grew accustomed, he became fiercely loyal of his clan, and began to grow comfortable with the way that his clan had been established. He had situated it into a little rigid box inside his head, an establishment of territories and calculated borders.

However, when the clan grew he was forced to adjust to the change. He had to allow his borders to break down and expand. His comfort zone was soon hindering him, as he was cold to newer clan members and was causing some trouble. However, when he understood that his actions were not kind, he realized that he needed to accept and invite change to occur.

As such, when his children hatched he was able to open up his heart to them and welcome them to his clan, and they looked up to him as one of the founders. All hatchlings are told stories of his deeds, defending the lairs with Mariam and Leijon. His lair is situated in the heart of the clan's clearing, high up in the trees where he's closer to the lightning whenever there is a storm. He always lights up whenever there is a thunderstorm coming, and he tells the children tales of the Stormcatcher, but when asked he firmly states that the Gladeveins are his home, where his children are raised, and where he will live the rest of his life. While he is gentle, he still retains much of the calculating personality of Lightning dragons.

His first mate, LOFAF, was not able to help him with his need to sort out the hardened borders inside his head, and while he faced change as an enemy she was able to face it head-on, to bend to its will and accept the new knowledge. Eventually they split off and he found a new mate in Chione, whose languid and cool attitude towards many things helped him understand that he simply needed to cool off himself. Lightning, bright white and hot, was much unlike Ice, and while its anger was gone in a second Ice's anger would always remain. Darkleer's lightning flashes helped Chione open up more, to become warmer to other dragons.
