(OOC: Ardolen's backstory is mostly outdated by now, but I'll leave it here as a frame of reference!)

A botanist who takes pride in studying everything there's to know about plants, as well as doubling as a ranger of flora and fauna, keeping an eye out for any who dare step into nature's ground with malicious intent alongside his band of planty companions.

Backstory:

A descendant of the legendary Sunset, Ardo heard stories of the Imperial's mighty feats from his parents as a hatchling, and once hoped that he could be just like her...

Unfortunately, that ambition was long shattered.

Whereas his siblings could perform magic by then, the red Imperial was barely able to grasp the basics of it. This resulted him isolating himself from both clanmates and family, afraid of being considered a disgrace. As such, Ardo much preferred tending to the plants in secret and talking to them (Even though he's from the nature flight and no one would likely bat an eye, he's still embarrassed to mention it) and eventually making a makeshift secret base on the outskirts of the clan's territories for days at a time, much to his family's worry from how long he stayed out. The final straw for the then adolescent dragon was when he awoke to a rude start in the wee hours of morning after a contrastingly calm night in his safe hidden haven, the first things that came into his view was... Talking, walking plants?? Thinking he was dreaming, he went back to catch a few extra hours of rest for he was never a morning dragon, when he got hit on the snout with a loud thwack. Whilst trying to recover from that uncalled attack and the shock that he was indeed awake, he searched for the unknown assailant, a faint playful cackle was heard right behind him, seemingly in a mischievous tone. Furious, he swerved around and was about to sink his claws onto whoever intruded his only place of safety...

...To find out no one was there? Confused, he then searched around more just to make sure, when he felt a little tap on his wing. Turning around, expecting it to be some dragon sneaking up on him... Only to find that it was a Greenroot Janustrap, staring and seemingly grinning in his face with its gaping maws. And with that, Ardolen made the painful decision of leaving his home, but not without leaving a letter explaining everything that happened and how he felt up to that point. Bearing nothing but a few of his belongings and a dozen sentient plants to his name, he took a deep breath and started his trek to find a new home, one that would welcome both him and his flora subordinates.

As he crossed from region to region, he'd always make an effort to note down any tidbits of information regarding plantlife that was with great haste and vigor, from how the climate affects the colour of the petals to which soil was most fertile for plants, gobbling up any knowledge that was new to him. And truth be told, Ardo himself wouldn't have been as dedicated to know if it weren't for his little plant buddies who he grew to cherish and care for, like a parent to their hatchlings. Whilst all of them were loyal to the ruby red Imperial, none of them could compare to the likes of Snipper and Snappy, the playful twin Janustraps that first woke Ardolen up with a rude start.

His first stop was the neighboring region of Nature; Dragonhome. At first he was allowed to stay in a clan of Snappers, but due to how much of a ruckus the plants caused the stoic clan, he profusely apologised to them all and swiftly left. The next location was the Tangled Wood the stark darkness that shrouded the land discomforted the plants, whilst Ardolen himself wound up being a laughing stock to the clans of Shadow, eyes peering into with an eerie purple within the darkness, with mocking remarks and shrill laughing at the poor dragon's plight. He crossed the Scarred Wastelands with haste, knowing about the rivalry with his home flight and from how he was treated back by some of the members of Shadow, by the time little Ardo arrived at the Starfall Isles he'd nearly collapsed from sheer exhaustion after taking a single step into Arcane territory. A Pearlcatcher in white noticed him struggling, and so quickly brought him to her clan to help recuperate his strength back. She belonged to a clan of powerful mages, with her being part of the leader's council, even. Realising that Ardolen could perform next to no magic, she offered to train him in the basics... much to his hesitance, essentially thinking "I've already been struggling to even understand magic all my life... but ah well, what could I possibly lose now?" And with that he accepted, albeit being doubtful.

The training itself, despite supposedly being designed for hatchlings, was "brutal and grueling", according to him. After a month or three, his first burst of magic finally showed up, much to his relief and even hugging his mentor and crying tears of joy. Excited to utilise his newly manifested magical prowess, he decided to use it to continue his research on plantlife, and taking note of ones native to the wonderful and wacky that the region of Arcane is. Ardolen had finally found his home after so long... Yet it all was not to be. He was playing around with one of the few spells he'd picked up when he'd misfired it, hitting one of the plants. Ardo hadn't actually known exactly as to what it did, other than the fact that it was originally a simple spell to change the colour of an object of whatever it was directed at, the results of whatever that happened were way more drastic.[wip]
