Biography

Looks like this historian has decided to travel from his home lair (132662, Meii), and is now off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to his home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but he would be very grateful!

PROFILE

Eldridge
edridge.png

"For historians ought to be precise, truthful, and unprejudiced. Neither interest nor fear, hatred nor affection should cause them to swerve from the path of truth whose mother is history, the rival of time, the depository of great actions, the witness of what is past, the example and instruction of the present, the monitor of the future."

PERSONALITY

❖There's a lot to say about Eldridge, but two things you'll never forget are that he's realistic and insightful. Of course he's also observant, a perfectionist and scholarly. His intelligence though, this is what he's often adored for.

❖Nobody's perfect of course and Eldridge has plenty of rainy days too. His greed for knowledge can cause things to heat up and beyond what others are willing to deal with. Fortunately this isn't the case very often.

Travel Logs

≡Log 01: Origin Story || Meii
Eldridge an ancient and old dragon who has seen many passages of time has recorded history and events that were then passed down to his numerous disciples who copied his scriptures into thousands of books releasing them to the public.

Though as time ticked by he slowly grew weary of watching the world pass by him, the Imperial has lived a life worthful but he realized that he himself didn't have any history of his own as he had devoted all his time to the world. After the realization Eldridge appointed a new Head Historian of the Deities and left his post in capable claws.

After wandering around the different great Deities lands he came upon a humble but rambunctious clan that resided in the Tidelord's domain. Clan Vallhaen ideally wasn't any different from any other clan they had a functioning society, public figures and a head leader but somehow Eldridge felt pleasant being around them which turned into the Imperial staying longer and longer until he soon found himself as a member of Vallhaen.

After a few years he decided to pick up recording again but instead to record the histories of clans that resided on the Deities lands. He parted with Vallhaen with the promise of returning after he had finished his work.

≡Log 02: A Sense of Identity // Runelesse
Eldridge journeyed into the realm of the Shadowbinder and sought out a large and diverse clan, eager to have their story documented and for some of their acolytes to study with a true master scholar. He was allocated a comfortable workspace and given a free choice of adornments from the clan hoard to wear during his stay.

He was assigned two disciples:

Already versed in elements of divination and dreamweaving, Elderling was keen to spend time discussing concepts of time and scholarship with the master. The dragons became firm friends and spent many a clear night observing the stars and contemplating tenets of philosophy.

Feyza, on the other hand, was young and impetuous, with a fiery temperament typical of the band of marauders, known as Wisplings, she belonged to. She had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a dogged determination to seek out the truth. This sometimes led to heated exchanges, but under Eldridge’s tutelage she eventually became more disciplined and tactful.

The three became an efficient team and began recording the history of the clan from their original modest hearth at the very edge of the realm. It wasn’t all dry fact-recording though. Eldridge proved to be a masterful storyteller and delighted his audience by bringing heroic sagas and ancient tales vividly to life at the clan’s many feasts.

Eventually the time came for the scholar to move on to a new assignment. He approached the council one last time to thank the clan for their generous hospitality and to bestow a parting gift.

“Your clan has struggled to define its true identity and your place in the Flight of the Shadowbinder.” he said, “It has been a great honour for me to record an outline of your history for everyone to share. Now the time has come for me to leave and I will carry fond memories of my time here wherever I go. I will leave you with a new name, and a new sense of identity. If you will accept it, I propose your clan take the name of Brightshade, denoting your openness and diversity within the borders of the Obscured Crescent.”

The council welcomed this name-gift and after a spirited rendition of the Song of Parting, Eldridge set out on a new adventure, knowing he would always have the fellowship of the Brightshade clan.

≡Log 03: A Wandering Breeze || swordlily
After several days of travel, Eldridge happened upon an inn on the Windswept Plateau. He was welcomed by several of the dragons who worked there, ready to lend him a bed and some warm food. While eating his meal, he took the opportunity to ask about the history of the inn. The owners recounted how it had been built from a small campsite, and how they delighted in helping wandering souls. Word quickly spread that a historian was in the building, and he found himself being frequently approached by fellow travelers, each telling their own stories in the hopes that he might record them.

By the end of his stay, Eldridge had written down many travel logs, personal anecdotes, and family myths. He was tired of scratching down small tidbits and individual adventures. Although the inn was a cozy place, he was eager to learn of bigger events and grander tales, like the history of a different clan. Following this urge, Eldridge bade farewell to the dragons of the inn, ready to seek out something new.
