xxxxxFORCES OF RECKONING

C I N D E R
Indomitable Warrior of the Smouldering Flame

★★★ HISTORY
One of three of the Forces of Reckoning, an elite and elusive team of warriors outcast and taken refuge in shadows. Originally a child of flame, Cinder was always sickly as a result of her egg tumbling from the burning incubation of its nest during a beastclans attack. Cinder's egg was one of few survivors, taken in by another clan, and lucky to hatch. Though her body was weak and cold, burning low and dim, her spirit has always been alight, ablaze, and vibrant. She treasured her clan and company, and fell for a young, kindhearted female fae of ice. Cinder's happiness was not to last, however, and tragedy soon struck in the form of the same marauding band that claimed the lives of her original clan and family. Though she fought tooth and nail, Cinder was powerless to stop her enemies from lying waste once more to everything and everyone she loved. Once again the only survivor, having been dismissed as too weak too warrant killing -- unlikely to last the night, they said -- she screamed and cried to the very heavens themselves for the chance to fight, to claim revenge, and to never be helpless again. Her prayers were answered in the form of a spark of burning energy deep within her, coursing through every vein and causing her eyes to flare bright with primal energy. . . her own, perpetually burning funeral pyre for those lost.

The sickness which once riddled her down to the bone has been beaten back and subdued by her fire and drive. Cinder is, above all else, a warrior, sworn to defend the helpless, innocent, and anyone who wants no part in fighting at all. She will not strike an enemy who has surrendered, but is ruthless in battle against those who will not bend. Cinder herself never will, never has, not since she was given the chance to thrive. Adorned in gold and bearing the warmth of lanterns and firelight, she serves as both force of destruction and warm hearth of home, using her light to guide the helpless and injured through the dark and heal her company's weary spirits. Her tone, though severe, is rich with warmth, and she is quick to comfort those in need, though she prefers action to words. Despite her constant vigilance and quiet but fierce conviction, the coldness within her has never truly fled, and it is a well kept secret that she spends every moment in near constant agony. Each raindrop that falls from the heavens of the rain-drenched territory in which the Forces reside sends a tendril of smoke from her form, a quiet hiss the only sign of its sting. Never will she flinch or falter, and the pain serves only as a reminder of her purpose.

★★★ CONNECTIONS
Cinder is not unpopular, but remains often alone of her own choice. Most describe her as intimidating but pleasant. It is rare, however, that anyone can be truly close to her -- any more so than a bonfire -- for a significant period of time, and she tends to drift away, unwilling to risk the loss of a third family. The only exceptions are her fellow Forces of Reckoning, and the creatures she favors. Part of the blessing that gave her new life involved the birth of a swarm of fireflies, indistinguishable from embers and just as hot, which circle her being and stoke the flames of her power and passion. Cinder's closest companion, however, is her familiar, Balefire: a pheonix rescued and risen from ashes just the same as Cinder herself. They are kindred spirits, born from death and driven forever towards it, slowly burning through their cycle. Thus is the nature of the mystical birds, and Cinder of the smouldering, dying, flame.
