Takashi has lived his entire life under the ever-watchful presence of the Lightweaver. This was his home, from the rolling fields, to the dainty forests of wispy olive trees, and toward the sprawling seaside temples that shone like the sun. He couldn’t think of a better place to live out life in luxury...

...Until Luminax came around and put a damper on his little paradise

But we’ll get to that later. After all, this is his backstory.

He was the son of Kaito, the esteemed Coatl guildmaster from the Gale Sanctum and a lowly maid who he met on his diplomatic trip to the Sunbeam Ruins. Their relationship was fleeting, and promptly ended when the cyan Wildclaw presented him with a tiny hatchling. From the shade of blue down to the feather markings, there was no mistaking this little dragon’s heritage. It was clear for anyone to see, which terrified Kaito. No. This wasn’t happening. If word escaped of this little hatchling’s existence, it would ruin his reputation with the guilds across Sornieth! What would he say to his clan back home? To his mate back home?

And so Kaito did what he found was best for everyone, especially himself. He bundled the unbelievably small parcel in warm linens, taking flight into the sunset and landing before dawn at a small temple. The light acolytes accepted the orphan as one of their own, and dubbed the Wildclaw “Takashi”, duty, prosper, and ambition. Cleaning the monastery grounds, reciting prayers for the Lightweaver, and crafting paper lanterns made up most of Takashi’s hatchlinghood. He lived comfortably. The temple was his home, and for all he knew, the Lightweaver was his mother figure.

In fact, Takashi always felt like he had a connection to his deity. Whether it was because he never knew his birth mother, or the wild imagination of a bored fledgling, Takashi believed with conviction his connection was real. The other young hatchlings laughed and ridiculed the blue Wildclaw for making his claims, sending the little dragon running away crying, silently begging his beloved goddess for help. Cowering in a shaded corner of the courtyard, Takashi began to sob, desperately crying out until a bright light shone in front of him so bright it was almost blinding. In front of him was a creature of light, a hare. His heart burst with gratitude. The Lightweaver was looking after him! The hare floated closer, hopping in the air around Takashi, leaving golden beads of light on his shoulders and wings.

Little did Takashi know how much the encounter would change his life forever, and how much Lightweaver blessed him that day.

All his life in the monastery was spent looking up at the clerics walking by in awe. Their regal black and gold rainaments billowed in the breeze and shone in the sun. Takashi wanted to look as special and important as them! When the time came and he was of age, he opted to take up the clerical robes himself and became an esteemed acolyte with an inexplicable bond with the light and luck. Such a power gifted to him by the Lightweaver was destined to do great things for the dragons of her realm, right? It wouldn’t go to his head… right?

But somehow it wasn’t enough

There was still a void deep down in his chest. He wanted more, but what?

And the rest is history. Through a turn of events, Takashi turned to a life much different than he was living before. He spent his days in crowded cities, sitting at circular tables filled with treasure, cards, and disgruntled dragons around him. No one knew how he always had just the right cards, or the best dice rolls. They whispered that he was a regular con…

And still, he wanted more

He pushed his luck further. He pushed that little gift further. He couldn’t tweak major things. But, he did find that tweaking the chances of smaller things had butterfly effects. Sometimes they had unintended consequences but other times they didn’t, not that it bothered him much. As long as it didn’t affect him, it was fine. Everything was fine.

He began setting his sights on the dragons of the Sunbeam Ruins. Takashi traveled throughout the region, telling clans what they wanted to hear and promising to provide (for a price) in the name of the Lightweaver. After performing a small trick with the help of a little luck and receiving the treasure, Takashi would skip town, off to the next clan and the next sucker. Deep down he wanted to help. He wanted in the worst way to use his power to do something bigger than the minor tweak. It frustrated him. Why did the Lightweaver hold back on her gift? At least the dragons believed in him for the short time he would stay in the clan. At least he was like a god to them.

Life was good. He had more than enough to support himself on the road. He couldn’t think of a better place to live out life in luxury...

...Until Luminax came around and put a damper on his little paradise

Of course, the chaos of the emperor’s wake created an uproar across the land. Cities became fortified and closed off. Clans that didn’t have protection came together and escaped the land, some left the ruins altogether. It was then that Takashi hatched an idea.

What if he could do something about it?

What if he could convince people he could do something about it?
