River has no wish to keep an inn, or cook or cure. It's the bayou he was born in - specifically its beehive - which enthralls him. The colony lodges beneath a collapsed bridge over the water, and its workers often drink at the bank where River coaxes banquets of bright flowers. He hasn't a sweet-tooth, but it pleases him to see what blossoms the bees prefer. The area's elder bears recognize his claim, but occasionally a plucky cub will happen upon the hive in spring, wade their way to a golden treasure, and end up under several thousand kilos of mud-schlupping, mean-mugging imperial...


"One of the happier witch-warlock partnerships. There is a cottage and coffee; and almonds and apples; and milk and tea, prepared equally. They keep a far kinder inn than Paarl and her hawkish accountant, which manifests wherever it is most needed. The catch, however, is it also comes with acres upon acres of woodland - and every tree in it has a genius IQ with, of course, a rotten sense of humor."
