Ells cannot fly, born with underdeveloped wings, she is missing the majority of muscles and wing fingers that it would take to get a dragon of her size into the air. Thankfully, this has never affected her, being a water dragon she was most at home in the sea. She was born on the surface, but living on Flotsam Town means one has to adapt with scant surface resources, and so, she began her journey into the depths, slowly getting stronger and able to handle the deep pressure weighing down on her. Her glowing tail a torch as she began to challenge herself to go deeper and deeper into the depths of the ocean to discover valuable resources. As a child she made quick friends with Pan, the child of the only gaoler family living in Flotsam Town at the time. Pan never treated her like she was weird, or fragile, like many of the other hatchlings and their parents did. Though the pairing of guardian obsessed with the ocean and gaoler terrified of water was an odd one, the two of them would spend hours on end causing mayhem around the docks, or sharing ghost stories under the pier. As they grew up, life separated them. Ells found her way to Bridgecourt working to collect valuable sea stars for Coast to sell as tourist trinkets, while Pan moved inland to Silverwind to get away from the ocean. They kept in touch through letters, though rarely saw each other in person. Ells couldn't afford the airfare to visit the windswept plateau and Pan couldn't afford time off from the small butcher shop he had built from the ground up. Ells slowly began to disappear for longer stints as she pursued deeper and deeper targets. The sea stars were becoming rarer at the surface and she had started hearing rumors of an ancient garden guarded by five sisters who promised to grant one wish to those who could find them. Many sailors were going searching in hopes of gold, fame or glory, but Ells had a different dream: she was going to see Pan again, one way or another. |
