WORLD'S WORST JUDGE™
  • Pronouns: He/him or she/her
  • YUANHAI DALANG is the head of the Tiandi Xueyuan's military court, alongside her wife Hahera. Both are known for their ruthless reputations--intimidating, harassing and assuming those who enter their court are guilty until proven innocent.
  • She's particularly fond of doing a back-and-forth routine with her wife where they alternate asking rapid-fire questions at those brought in for hearings. Both wives share a mind-link due to the messed-up bond they share over ruining wrongdoers' lives; this helps hem coordinate the way in which they rain hell down upon the poor dragons brought in for trial.
  • Like 8 of the 9 other judges on the military court, Yuanhai is both a prosecutor and a judge. (Which is horrible because those things should be separate to ensure fairness, but unfortunately unlike with the other courts, that separation isn't present because military court due to its strictness gives dragons fewer rights.) This means she gathers all her own evidence on the opposing party and basically just uses it to interrogate however inappropriately she pleases without fear of interference from defense lawyers' objections. She also gets to vote with her fellow judges on what evidence is or isn't admissible! Fun times.
  • As a Water dragon, her gift of future sight is indispensable to her work as a judge…although it quite often means she breaks what we would consider to be law. She basically ignores the evidence half the time because she likes using her oracle powers to judge what verdict will create what outcomes for the clan. Sometimes she'll still use the evidence as an excuse to screw you over even if the clan would be better off if she let you go, because she likes sadistically crushing peoples' lives. However, she has also 1000000% convinced her court to let people go who were absolutely guilty because through some convoluted series of events, she's determined that the clan would be better off if the person went free. She tries to justify this by saying that her visions ARE a form of evidence--perhaps the most important form of evidence considered. (And, well, she and the other judges get to decide what evidence is admissible, so…)
  • Yuanhai's future visions are the only reason why Anakin was accepted into the Order of Lumeni in spite of having been Vader. Yuanhai and everyone else on the court (except the one decent judge) would never have let him join due to his past, but Yuanhai compared the futures of accepting vs. not accepting Anakin and grudgingly admitted that accepting him was vastly better.
  • Kenobi, Head of the Order of Lumeni, really hates that this is the court he has to work with. However, he's kind of stuck with them because most people in the Tiandi Xueyuan's leadership are in favor of the military court's cruel and hamfisted approach to law.
  • Speaking of dragons that detest Yuanhai…Beilun. Beilun as Clan Father has the power to nominate the members of the clan's courts, who are then vetted by the school's three Councils. When Beilun redid the courts after returning to power, he originally had nine entirely different (and much more compassionate) judges picked for the military court. But a good chunk of the three Councils completely stymied his efforts and basically strong-armed him into accepting their choices; only one of his original military court picks made it onto the bench. Nowadays, the Pupil's and Servant's Councils are completely opposed to the presence of the eight undeserving judges on the bench, but given that the Teacher's Council has more authority than them and most of them are in favor of those eight, there's little the opposition can meaningfully do.
