Eloisa was just another girl hatched into the nest of peasants who worked as the castle help. Her mother, a maid, but Eloisa found she was quite bad at cleaning. Even as a little hatchling, she preferred the dirt. The crisp scent of grass. The blowing of leaves across the stone tiles. The castle grounds interested her far more than the silks and gowns of it's interior.
Back then, the castle gardens were mostly topiaries and ground cover. Wildflowers grew a bit outside the grounds and Eloisa found moments where she could sit among them. Often, she dared to bring some back. One time, she passed by the young princess whom caught sight of them. As Eloisa was walking away, she could hear the girl's excited chattering about the flowers to her handmaid. Eloisa made it a point to 'accidentally' drop some flowers near the Great Hall on another day.
She never met the queen, or any of the royal family, really. So, she was a bit surprised when the chamberlain informed her the queen had given her a new posting--as the castle groundskeeper. Eloisa flourished at the task. The gardens were her personal playground to arrange with carefully considered plants of appropriate colors and heights. As the princess matured, she spent many days alone in the gardens. Eloisa never dared to speak to her, but was honored the girl appreciated her work.
