Biography

Caolan

nature-they.pngnature-accepted.pngnature-mated.pngnature-fighter.pngnature-afflicted.png

"The darkness here calls to me. To weave beneath the trees and run over the roots, hunting my prey... that is my purpose, is it not? I shall recruit others to my cause, and we shall hunt like kings!"

Caolan washes ashore in the Gladekeeper's domain with no memories except for their name, and their burning hatred towards their ex-crew, who threw them overboard in a mutiny. Disoriented and enraged, they set off deep into the Shrieking Wilds to find information on those who betrayed them, or even information about who they were as a dragon and what could have prompted such treatment. However, they encounter roadblock upon roadblock, from dragons not willing to endanger themselves aiding a disgraced captain, to others who see fit to have them locked up. Caolan leaves the more populated areas of the Shrieking Wilds in order to make a life for themselves and focus on survival rather than revenge, for now.

Some time into their self-imposed exile from civilised society, they come across a pair of earrings hidden in a rotting tree stump that are practically vibrating with magical energy. With greed overcoming their better senses, Caolan picks the earrings up, figuring that the right buyer, (or hell, even the wrong one), would pay good coin for such a powerful artefact. They have but a moment to regret their decision as the earrings compel them to pierce their ears with the attached hooks. Soon after, they are wracked by a great headache and pass out cold on the forest floor.

Later, they awaken to a hoarse, old voice whispering in their ear and a throbbing in their temples, not far from their horns. Wake up... it says, Fulfill your purpose, hunter... it goads, and Caolan feels an eerie calm overcome their body and mind. The hunt is on.

The voice whispers and it screams, and Caolan winces not as great antlers begin to grow upon their brow, a crown of bone pushing out and establishing them as the leader of a grand hunting group. Caolan chitters with excitement as they jump from log to stump, chasing the darkness, chasing prey to dominate, chasing hunting partners to gather and take with them.

Their craving for darkness leads them to the Shadowbinder's domain, the voice croaking with delight as unsettlingly cold humidity wreathes itself around them. Perfect grounds for a hunt... it croons, A place to find a partner to create our Hunt...

As they wander the Shadowbinder's domain, lost and with purpose at the same time, they come across Sanitatem entrenched in the Darkthorn Altar, and as soon as they set sights upon Citharae, the voice screams its approval and pleasure at the imperial's physqiue and appearance. Citharae is a perfect mate, though how much of Caolan's love for him is actually their own, is unknown to both Citharae and Caolan.

However, time marches ever onwards, and with it, Sanitatem disembarks from the pleasing darkness that enshrouds the Shadowbinder's domain. Hissing it's rejection, the Erlking in Caolan's mind fights with their want to see new shores peeking out from under their controlled instincts, and at the prospect of finding new grounds, which will, according to logic that Caolan isn't too sure about, require a new mate.

Separating from Citharae is a painful experience, as underneath the curse, Caolan had become fond of the soft-spoken gentle giant, though the compulsion of their curse is too strong to ignore. Though saddening by their parting, Citharae is understanding, knowing that Caolan cannot control this curse or the way it impacts on their behaviour, and insists that though his heart breaks at leaving Caolan's side romantically, that he will always be around; to look after any children Caolan might have, to simply be more than friends though less than mates.

When Elster arrives at the clan, having moved on from Polareis with a heavy heart after parting with his previous mate, who nigh immediately left him in the dust in the aftermath, Caolan and the Erlking both fall in love at first sight. Crooning and clicking, making their way to Elster as fast as possible, Caolan does his best to initiate a courtship right away. Whilst startled, Elster is both flattered and intimidated, and also wary, his heart ever so slightly hardened by his mate's willingness to go on without him.

However, Caolan persists. A pirate turned accursed hunter, their charm isn't the most refined, and is miles away from what Elster is used to seeing amongst the noble Coatl ranks of Polareis, yet it is this difference that enchants him all over again. Their great antlers, draped in a menagerie of plants that hang near to the floor from Caolan's not inconsiderable height are fascinating to the ex-gardener, and it is with mounting intrigue after weeks of clumsy attempts, that Elster accepts Caolan's proposal.

Moving on, although, is all together difficult for Caolan's previous mate, and he stays in close touch with Caolan, and as Elster warms to the roguish Wildclaw, he senses that there is more than meets the eye to their story. However, Caolan is completely honest, despite the curse hissing at them to shut up lest they chase Elster away. Regardless of this warning, Caolan spills all, about their and Citharae's still deep connection as lovers turned incredibly close compatriots, and Elster, charmed by such honesty, quickly warms to Citharae alongside Caolan.

Settling in, the curse in Caolan's head finally seems happy with its bounty, and leaves more control to Caolan's true personality before the fateful event that cursed them so. Doting on both Elster and Citharae, Caolan croons in contentment when they return from a hunt, only to see Elster and Citharae curled together, chatting animatedly about songs and the grand gardens that Sanitatem is host to.
