Red's elder sister and leader of the Red-Snout Clan. Her inner life tends toward a bundle of conflicting rages, and the only dragons she can tolerate for long stretches of time are her ungrown children, her sister, and more recently, her mate. Rusty is deeply suspicious of every other creature in existence, easily angered, and not easily dissuaded.

However, she loves her sister deeply, and with her providing tenacious power to augment Red's more strategic approach, they make a remarkable hunting team. Both Red and Runedmoon work together to help keep some of her more vicious tendencies in check, smoothing over ill-placed threats and mending relations with the neighbours. She's learned to accept Tom as a benign influence in her world, though the two don't really talk much and generally eat separately, Red dining with one or the other each day.

Her clan works as a team of wandering hunters, mostly of game, sometimes of bounty. The Intersection is a frequent pit stop, where they happily trade their excess meat for other essentials, such as medicine and preservatives.
