She hatched as the smallest amongst many siblings. They all marveled as their shiny scales reflected the light around the room, golden eyes wide with wonder. A large dragon sat curled around them, a large picture book laid out in front of the nest, a deep voice rumbled across the hatchlings. Her siblings ran around a lot, leaping over each other and testing their small wings. She just watched from the nest, she couldnt figure out how to make her legs climb over the edge. The large dragon kept picking her up and moving her around before making a noise and putting her back in the nest. She was scared of the smaller dragon that kept looking at her. He gave her nasty things to drink that made her tired. But at least he gave her her own teddy to cuddle. The smaller dragon carried her out of the nest one day, the large dragon just watched, he looked upset. |

She woke up in a sack, a large imperial stared at her from the opening. There was a beat of silence, she screamed. She flapped her wings, kicking her legs to free herself from the bag, only succeeding in getting more tangled. A pair of large arms circled her and pulled her from the sack, holding her close to her soft chest. The other dragon started humming, rocking her back and forth slowly until she fell asleep.
“Ive tried it before Nax” She chided, watching the younger dragon pull at her new shackles. She pulled her into a hug as she growled at the metal, “We’ve got to be able to do something” Nax murmured into her sisters striped chest “We cant just be stuck here” Lumi looked down at her adopted sibling, she hadn't been her as long as she had, she hadn’t yet been worn down by their tormentor. “I’m sure we will get out,”The lie came easily these days, she was beginning to believe it herself “but pulling at enchanted metal isnt going to help” Nax had only a patches of miss matched material on her, she’d yet to hit her growth spurt, leaving her beautiful grey velvet hide mostly clear. The younger dragon got up and started pacing the room. She had a much longer chain than Lumi, and was often made to walk on hours on end. She was always blindfolded when awake with their tormentor, he poked and prodded her, saying things about muscle weakness and other muttering she never understood. Lumi had started encouraging her to exercise while in their room, hoping to make it easier on her when she was away from her. Nax reached the bars and turned, slowly pacing back to the wall and turning again. After a few more lengths Lumi started to doze, eyes slipping closed as she watched the repetitive movement. She listened to the rhythmic pacing, a nice sound after being alone in silence for so long. |

The sound stopped, she cracked one eye open to glance at her sister. Nax had her face pressed right up to the bars, ears forward and alert, straining for sound. Flooded with concern Lumi was suddenly much more awake, watching her sister intently afraid to move and make a sound. She could hear it too. Voices, she recognised that of the bogsneak, but there was a quieter one she’d never heard. The imperial listened trying to pick out words but to no avail. Nax shouted, banging her hands against the bars. Lumi jumped up, rushing to pull her sister back before she could attract the wrong attention. She clamped her hand over her mouth, dragging her away from the bars. “And here we have the most recent projects” The bogsneak came into view, a glare plain on his features “The younger one has not learnt their manners like you” He turned motioning the other to come forward. A wildclaw, made of the same fabric as Lumi slowly moved forward, he got far closer to the bars than the bogsneak. Orange eyes were wide, flicking between the sisters quickly before he composed himself. “Imperials?” He murmured to the bogsneak. “They get very large if I recall correctly” The wildclaw continued to stare at the sisters, not looking to the tormentor “If the young one continues like this youll have a problem on your hands Sir” He tilted his head towards the smaller dragon, “Maybe I should watch them for you, better safe than sorry” He finally turned away, looking bogsneak in his dark eyes. He thought for a moment, considered the stitched wildclaws proposal. “That is a good idea “ His mouth split into a sickening grin “They’d never be able to get past my favourite creation” Continued... |
