Everyone dies. Nanchao knows this well, embraces it, glorifies it. This dragon lingers on the edges of dens and asks the dying to describe the best moments of their lives, inscribing them forever on his parchments that he carries with him across the Scarred Wasteland. He offers no comfort, no kind words. But the act of a blessed dragon documenting one's favorite memories is enough to soothe even the most distraught of souls.

Nanchao does not stay to see his wards through to the other side. The moment his quill touches the paper, he holds their souls with him in the scrolls. Despite the thousands of lives he carries, the parchments are lighter than air.
