You decide to help Reed 'research' flowers. Reed draws a flower stem on paper and sticks it on a corkboard. Brandishing a flower, he announces a game of 'pin the flower on the stem' (reminiscent of a certain donkey game?). After helping him collect the flowers for theplayers subjects, you supervise the game experiment. "The game is so easy for everyone..." Reed wonders as a few hatchlings layer flowers on the top of the stem drawing. Before you can tell him that he forgot the blindfolds, he jumps up excitedly. "Oh! Corvi mentioned thinking caps! I have to get one!". He leaves you to your role and you sigh - if only the little pearlcatcher could listen to your suggestion.
Moments later he returns with a large hat that covers his eyes. Oh, maybe he'll use the hat as a blindfold! You open your mouth but he's quick to speak. "I got it I got it! Let's make it a throwing game!" Before you know it you're supervising a game of darts. Petals and pollen shed every time the flower studded darts land. Hatchlings sure are tiring... but it's good that they're all having fun.

Reed recycled the flower petals from the game he previously made. Carrying the basket of collected petals on his tail, he silently made his way to the older dragon. Yora seemed nice was but mostly sort of serious - Reed believed that Yora was just the dragon that needed surprising! Reed sneaked around the coral and rock wall. The loaded basket felt heavy in his tail - a good amount. It looked like Yora was taking a walk. Three, two , one... "Surprise!".
The young pearlcatcher dumped the overused petals over their head. Yora didn't seem amused. They flicked a sodden petal off their eyes. "Oops! That was meant to be, uh..."
To Reed's surprise then relief, Yora started laughing. They buzzed their wings and the petals flew up. "If there were going to be petals on top of me, I would have imagined it to be graceful! Though I do wonder, where have these petals been? They're all torn, just what are you hatchlings up to?"
"We're surpri- I mean, that's a secret the adults can't know!"
"Hm okay, be good! You can't go overboard with the petals next time!"
Reed decided to not tell Yora that there was an entire troop of hatchlings with the same intentions. "Of course!"
Yora ruffled his hair and smiled. "I'll let you go now, but no messing up with other people's gardens ok? I hope you aren't causing Tinker a headache. Last time there was..." And Yora was serious again thought Reed, when would they let up? "Bye, I got some serious confetti collecting to do!" The hatchling ran off but turned his head to shout. "Did you like my surprise?" Yora nodded and without looking ahead, Reed beamed and took to the skies (clumsily).
Watching the hatchling soar away, Yora smiled to themself and continued their stroll, breathing in the fragrance of flowers - a scent that was increasingly common. Hatchlings are cute but gee, so energetic! They flicked the last petal off. If only Yora knew that was not the last flowery surprise of the week...

Reed was disappointed. Sure, he had fun exploring and collecting flowers today. It was cool to see which pigments worked best with the paint base too. He really did have fun with everyone discovering all the colours! However...
Reed solemnly glanced at a tipped over bucket. A purple puddle of what was once glorious paint became some sort of muddy liquid. All his effort, ruined! He exhaled a sad whine. How was he supposed to body paint anybody at this rate?
The pitter pattering of feet came. Hm, another hatchling? Reed looked up. "Aw, why the long face Reed?" The wildclaw had a habit of walking with a bounce and most unfortunately mimicked the step of a hatchling far too well. "Oh, Marmoris... it was just, I-"
"Wow! I can't believe you're so down. After all, look at the epic puddle!"
"Exactly Marmoris..."
"I'm itching to jump in it!"
"Wait, what? I haven't explained-"
"Come join! This will be fun little one!"
'No way!' thought Reed. The hatchling jumped out of the way - it was a relief that the splash didn't completely drench him! He watched in awe as Marmoris danced and sung a song about getting his feet wet. "Flower infused rain puddles are the best kiddo! Don't be shy!" The rather purple-becoming wildclaw chuckled and gave Reed a reassuring but not so persuasive wink.
"Ah don't worry, I'll watch - for research!" said Reed, bursting into laughter. He thought body painting involved brushes and patterns, but this was even better. Fine thought Marmoris. Although, I do suddenly recall that it didn't rain recently...

Sure, Tinker wasn't a cook, but she knew a lot about plants. And this was no better opportunity to ask from the expert - it happened to be one of the rare days she was off on break. Reed knew it was time to strike! He heard that she was having tea at the gardens so he rushed over as quickly as his little legs let him.
He slipped through the entrance and located her shimmering green wings quickly despite the many pathways in the massive garden. She was sitting at a table under flowering trees, a small petal decorated cake at the centre of it.
"Tinker! I need to ask you-" the small pearlcatcher caught a breath "-a reaallly important question!". As he huffed and puffed, he made note of a butter knife mounted on a curious metal arm next to the teapot on the table.
The dragon shifted, pulling her chair back a little so she was facing the panting hatchling. "Hm? Ask away little one."
"We need to know! Do flowers count as pizza toppings?"
"We?" She handed Reed a tea cup and he automatically held the warm beverage.
“Um Corvi and everyone else. Anyways! What do you think?”
“Ha, I see! Well, you tell me - what makes something not a pizza topping?” She sipped her own tea and grinned. Petals were flying everywhere and she didn’t seem to mind that they were falling into her tea.
“I don’t know, I’m asking what you think Tinker!”
“Well, why don’t you come along and collect some flowers with me, then we can test if they taste good in pizza! You’d be surprised at the variety of flavours. Recently I’ve been using flowers in my tea, what do you think about the one you’re drinking now?”
“I think it tastes…” He took a small sip, “Cosy and warm, yet - um, flowery?”
“I was hoping that this refreshing cake would make a balance, why don’t you give it go?” Tinker nudged the chair opposite her. To Reed’s surprise, she had already left a second slice on a small dessert plate on the table. Wow, Tinker was so nice! He hadn’t even seen her get it ready.
Obligingly, Reed sat on the lacey iron chair and grabbed a spoon. Cake first, pizza later! Tinker happily chatted with the hatchling, thankful that he had forgotten about her idea of collecting flowers - after all, today was more of a sit back and relax day! She always got carried away by other’s enthusiasm, especially if it was something to do with plants or technology. Currently, she was hit by inspiration after seeing the recent hatchling games and was in the middle of a flower craze.
Another clan member was getting her interested in cooking too (their flower cake was utterly delicious!), so she decided that later she would help Reed find the answer - do flowers count as pizza toppings?
