Personality:
A true Arcane dragon, Rion is dangerously excitable and driven. He is consumed by his need to understand how magic works, his research taking precedence over everything else in his life. Dragons who can't understand this or keep up with him are often forgotten. While his ultimate purpose stays the same, Rion jumps from project to project, following whatever inspires him.

Rion is also strong willed and bull-headed, basing his decisions more on feeling than thought.

Yet, for all of his single-mindedness, most of his student dragon are more than willing to follow his lead. While he is a well loved teacher, his personal life often suffers. Rion can be arrogant, devaluing dragons who can't keep up with him intellectually. Since being mated to Symphony he has become much more humble though.

The native Coatl tongue relies heavily on different pitches, and Rion is unable to distinguish between the different tones, making him effectively mute. He can understand draconic to a very limited degree, but Rion typically communicates through symbol conjuring-- creating small symbols in the air with magic.

Backstory:
Rion can't quite remember where he was hatched, at least not more specifically than "somewhere in the Starfall Isles." This is because he was able to understand very little in his early childhood, due to his very limited hearing. His parents took care of him as best they could, however when the clan needed to reduce their numbers, Rion was one of the first to go.

His next clan was his home until he decided to travel as an adult. This clan was massive, boasting thousands of members,

and was only held together by a strict set of rules, something that Rion would have trouble with.They spent a lot of effort to educate Rion, and this is where he learned to "speak" via symbol. However, as a child, Rion was only able to study when the clan (and what his clan) decided to teach him. Rion was violently precocious and curious, and would often get in trouble for taking the entire class time to ask off-topic questions, or conducting his own "experiments".

When not in classes, Rion had to work with the rest of the clan, he and the other young dragons spending hours gathering plants. He would often shirk his duties to read or practice his magic. Over time, the tension between Rion and the clan became too great, and Rion felt that he had to leave.

He spent some time wandering, simply fending for himself and partaking in whatever reading materials other clans offered him. It was during this time that he truly began wondering about magic. Rion knew that magic was one of the main forces in the world, that the deities controlled it, and that they were born from it. He also knew that the great force that threatened their world, the Shade, wanted it. Magic was how he worked and lived, how he communicated with other dragons, the very essence of life itself. Rion was fascinated with it, but not with the philosophical matters of magic, but the force itself and how it could be manipulated.

In theory, he thought, if one dragon were to have enough ability to manipulate magic, then they would rival the deities who created the world. And so he began studying secretly, worried that his research would be condemned. For long stretches of time, he stayed far away from other clans, only finding a temporary home when he was desperate for other dragon contact.

But one day, a journal containing his research was stolen by Beastclan raiders, and somehow landed across the desk of a dragon serving under the Arcanist named Gabriel. When the small gray Fae read the notes, he couldn't help but smile to himself. There was only one dragon he knew who could harden this intelligence and hubris into something beautiful. So he sent the journal to his old mate Sylvia.

It wasn't long before Sylvia had contacted Rion, and offered to let him study in her clan. Rion was wary, but his mate Symphony-- who had just begun traveling with him-- convinced him to at lease hear Sylvia out. Now Rionis a researcher here at Skyisle, and occasionally picks up a class or two of Sylvia's.

But he gets quite a bit of guidance from Sylvia, and still considers himself her student.
