Looking for a third knight to round out the trio, Hyperion knew this was the one when he gazed into this dragon’s innocent blue eyes. After convincing the parents to give him the hatchling, Hyperion took him home to raise as a knight, getting Galford and Xanthos to teach the hatchling about his new life. With Hyperion’s other knights as role models, the hatchling quickly became attached, and, when he grew older, realised that he had already found his charge-- or rather, charges. As Hyperion’s third knight, he feels guilty that Hyperion himself is not his charge. However, he understands that as Hyperion is the charge of his charges, he must also protect Hyperion.
