"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

Never expected to see a fandragon of this story, and such a great one! I LOVE vaguely sad and/or unsettling eternal babies and yep, this is a good one!

this book,,seeing this dragon brought back so many memories, my god. i used to love this book when i was younger. i'm still fond of it, tbh. i think i actually saw this dragon once before and read through the book again with the link you put in their bio and got choked up over it. i don't really have much to say about the dragon themself other than they're absolutely perfect,,the coatl head feathers imitate rabbit ears so perfectly,,,perhaps one day your dragon, too, may become real :)
*sniffles* I’m not crying you’re crying... god what a SWEET comment!!

I can't believe I haven't picked your Velveteen Rabbit before!! I have such strong memories of this hearing this story as a small child and finding it so sad yet sweet. I remember when I was 5 we had a storyteller come into school one day to read it and I was holding back tears the entire time

It's become one of those childhood stories that's always stuck with me. Your fan dragon version is so perfect too, I love that you made them a permababy, it suits so well

I'm not sure what this is from, but I love permababy Coatls! Very cute, especially with the scene.

This bring back memories! I remember doing a play for this story in primary school. I like the brown patchwork genes on a baby coatl. The wide eyes nail the innocent look too. From what I remember, this was like Pinocchio, but sadder.
(It's been a while, so I'm going to have to reread the story again.)

Ha, dear, The Velveteen Rabbit is such a precious reference to base a dragon off of, and Velveteen Rabbit here is an appropriately lovable-looking plush dragon kid! A great, homey-looking Scene choice for the story Velveteen's namesake is from, too!!

OMG OMG Velveteen Rabbit was the FIRST book I ever read as a child!!!
To be reminded of it almost brings me to tears, and that never happens. I remember being so proud and would carry my book copy everywhere -- I still have it somewhere.

I'll have to find it, thanks for the reminder. A coatl was the perfect choice for this character and I love how you went the extra mile and made him a perma hatchie.

Bravo!
