Old Luck lore stored here

In the beginning, there were Two.

The Two lived long and ancient lives, their spirits timeless, ephemeral, immortal -- or at least seemingly so, but time takes its toll on all beings, and even the Two were no exception. As their corporeal forms faded away, they breathed life into their successors with their dying breaths, and through magic and stardust, the Two gave life and purpose to Three.

The first-born, Luck, was a curious and mischievous god, tipping the scales of fate in and out of favor of mortals and gods alike.

In his youth, Luck tended to tip the scales toward the catastrophic, seeing how far he could push before the world reached its breaking point, testing the limits and watching the chaos and destruction unfold before moving on, never lingering in one place for long. As he matured, the catastrophic results of his interference in the mortal realm were soon played out, and he found new pleasure in influencing more favorable changes in the lives of others -- beginning with his youngest brother Khartozs.

When the Two used their dying breaths to mold their successors from stardust, their magic had all but run out when Khartozs, the final of the Three, was formed, leaving him ordinary, vulnerable, mortal -- until Luck took pity on him and tipped the scales in his favor, sharing with him the gift of immortal life and granting him the power of foresight before continuing his path across Sornieth, leaving Khartozs to his own devices with his newfound power.

Luck’s transient life took him around the world a hundred times over and a hundred times again as the centuries ticked by, sharing good fate and fortune on a whim and sending the scales tipping toward the less favorable when a stranger piqued his ire, but moving on soon after seeing the results of his work. Rarely did he care to revisit the sites of his blessings or mischief after they had reached their inevitable conclusions, but when his path crossed once more with his youngest brother’s, he was forced to face what he had done.

Khartozs begged him to take back his gift -- the blessing of an immortal life had become a curse as he lived on well beyond his intended count of years, watching clans and empires rise and fall around him, using his foresight to give unheeded warnings to those around him, watching present and future destruction and death debilitate those around him while he was powerless to stop it.

And Luck refused.

When the Two had given life to Khartozs, they had given him a mortal life, meant to expire with the passage of time, never intending him to live beyond his years, but Luck had extended that. Khartozs had seen his count of years time and time again, and Luck knew that if he took back his gift, if he stole Khartozs’s immortality, there would be nothing left of his brother but the dust of mortal bones worn well past their allotted time. The brothers parted bitterly.

Perplexed by Khartozs’s insistence that his immortality was a curse, Luck sought the advice of his second brother, Isitore, the Watcher. Isitore listened as he always did, mutely nodding along with Luck’s story, how he had given their youngest brother everlasting life and been spited for it, and how Khartozs was a fool for wishing himself to return to a mortal life. When Luck’s tale was finished, Isitore considered all that he had said for a long time, and then firmly signed that Luck should try a mortal life for himself, to understand Khartozs’s fascination with such an ephemeral life, to see the value in the simple pleasures.

Luck took his brother’s advice and set himself up a life modeled after the mortals of Sornieth, learning to enjoy the simple pleasures, delighting in the day-to-day triumphs of a simple life, immersing himself into the world of mortality -- and while he enjoys the simplicity of a mortal life, he can’t help but tip the scales of fate around him, cutting corners to ensure his simple life is still a life of ease.

Isitore - One of the few beings that Luck respects. Luck loves to bother Isitore with endless questions, knowing full well the mute demi-god can't reply. In their time together, he learned to 'hear' Isitore through his body language. Luck showed his affection for his younger brother in his own way by pestering him for attention. Reunions between the two are few and far apart, but to keep in touch with each other, Isitore had one of his children with follow Luck. Through their telepathic link, Luck can still annoyadore his brother from half the realm away.

Khartozs - The rift between the two brothers has not healed and may never heal as long as Khartozs wants what Luck is unwilling to give. They haven't heard from each other in eons. Luck hopes that one day he'll see his brother again... Their meeting may be the only thing he doesn't dare to change the fate of.

During Luck’s brief stint attempting to live as a mortal, he met his first mate and they were blessed with a single hatchling. Unfamiliar as he was with the mortal world, Luck failed to recognize that his tiny daughter was in rapidly failing health, and he failed to even bless her with a name before she passed on from the mortal realm. After her passing, Luck’s mate grew bitter and distant, leaving him alone in his grief to shoulder the blame of their daughter’s death. Alone and mourning, Luck retreated from his mortal life to avoid facing more loss and heartbreak at the hands of the passing of time.

Years later, he found himself growing lonely, aching for the connections he had formed when living as a mortal, and sought the advice of his middle brother Isitore, who had initially advised him to live as a mortal to understand their ways. Isititore advised Luck to open his heart once more to the possibility of loving another and building a new family, and Luck finally gathered the strength and determination to seek out a second mate. This time, he and his mate were blessed with triplet daughters -- Kisshoten, Tyche, and Felicitas -- and, determined to hold them close, Luck imbued each of them with the gift of immortality. He was later blessed with another brood of five hatchlings.
