As a part of Starhome folklore, Ellis acts as a lesson to young hatchlings as well as a warning to any outsiders that may wander in. Although harmless, the stories about her have evolved to include her in the various dangers that may take unsuspecting dragons in the middle of the night, causing fear to those who may encounter her. The ridgeback now lurks around the strands aimlessly, and though her soul may be gone, the story of how it was lost may remain forever as it is passed from generation to generation.
She was once a peppy young dragon with a thirst for adventure, and would always go exploring with the other hatchlings whenever she could. However, her curiosity would end up getting the better of her, as she ended up sneaking into the house of a local witch and taking interest in her craft. Ellis would continue to sneak in and spy on the witch, watching her make potions and spells, until one day she got careless and made herself known. Furious by her snooping, the witch thought to curse her eyes as punishment, making them endlessly cry and become blinded by the black tears.

When the ridgeback stumbled her way back home, she was shunned and exiled from her clan, as they did not want her to carry a curse unto themselves as well. Initially, one could hear Ellis wail at night for her lost eyes and home, but over the years, she became a hollow shell of the sweet dragon they once knew. Some believe that the curse had made its way into her heart, though others believe she has simply gone numb.
