The child of a frost spirit and a normal human. He takes more after his mother in his demeanor. Because of his hybrid nature, he actually can't handle the cold temperatures as well as his family, so he has to dress warmer than they do. He can still withstand the cold much more than a human can and has full control over his inborn elemental powers, however.

Most of the frost spirits who meet him react with confusion, disdain, or both. He is the only known hybrid to exist, and the more human aspects of him stick out like a sore thumb: too emotional and too uncoordinated, despite the fact that Soren is also significantly more inexpressive and graceful than the vast majority of humans. Even those who treat him kindly, like his cousin Maire, do so with the insinuation that he is somehow lesser for his heritage.

That's why he always enjoys traveling with his father, as there is much more variance in human society and people tend not to pay him as much notice. He buys a good amount of books, many being romance novels, during their trips so that he has plenty of reading material at home. Frost spirits are not an affectionate group in any sense, his mother being the notable exception - she is willing to hug him every couple months - so it is one of the few outlets he has.

It's been quite a long time since one of their trips, however, and even longer since he has been visited by his father. He and his mother are worried that something awful must've happened. (It has.)
