"You don't have to leave. You're making a bad decision. It was your fault, and now you're blaming me for your problems."

Lazar only shook his head. The open doorway called him, and he stepped through.

After being kicked out of the only home he knew on the Rotrock Rim, Lazar didn't have many options. He was unskilled, used to only the climate he came from, and knew he would end up exalted someday. So he figured, why not, and took the road to exaltation directly. But to his surprise, his story didn't end there. He didn't work harder than the other, younger warriors, nor did he have a special talent the dragons in charge wanted to exploit. But he found himself suddenly at the top of the trainees, outpacing and outleveling every other but his teachers. And now he finds himself here, asking a boon to repay the clan who taught him. Where his story will go now is a complete mystery.
