Originally named "Leon" for his father, the family found it so confusing that everyone simply ended up calling him "Skip." He seemed an anxious hatchling, but as he grew his parents recognized it as restlessness and decided to find him an apprenticeship outside the Windswept Plateau so he could see the world.

It had all been decided for him: his sire had connections from his homeland in the Tangled Woods and the clan trader, Gallineo, agreed to transport him there on her way to the Shifting Expanse for the Thundercrack Carnivale. He wasn't sure whether to be excited for the journey or discouraged that he had so little say in his own future.

All of that changed when, on the day of his departure Gallineo's mate, Rialto, turned to Skip in the wagon, saying with a wink and a smile, "Well, no one said we had to take a direct route. Where would YOU like to go first, youngling?"
