Jason Peter Todd does not consider himself a “good person.” It’s inevitable, working with Batman and all his little cronies and sidekicks, to question what you do: am I any better than the people I beat up every night, really? Do I have a right to do this? What makes me qualified? What separates me from the other crazies that litter Gotham and Arkham Asylum? For Jason, the distinction is simple: he has a gun (or two. Three, maybe. Okay, he’s got a lot of guns) and the full knowledge that there is no distinction. Not for him, at least. He’s been on the wrong side of Batman more times than he’d like to think about, so he knows that the difference is negligible at best. Sure, he’s not unleashing toxin on unsuspecting and innocent crowds like the Joker or Dr. Crane, and he’s not deciding anyone’s fate with a coin flip like Dent, and he’s not an ecoterrorist like Dr. Isley. He’s, really, not anything like that—if you ignore the name he (rightfully) stole, of course. Still. No one’s jumping at the gun—hah—to call him a superhero or anything. And Jason is just fine with that. He’s not Batman, and thank God for that, and he’s not Robin or Red Robin or Nightwing or Spoiler or Batgirl or Black Bat or Signal or any of the other teenagers that Batman’s recruited as of late. He doesn’t follow an antiquated code that does more harm than good. He’s the Red Hood. He’s a bad guy, for better or for worse. He doesn’t think about it too much.
”That looks like it’s gotta hurt. Well, I say that like I’m speculating or something. I know it hurts.”
