Biography
Mason
Gen 1 Trapped Pearl |
Mason is the first born heir to Konungur, though is presumed dead by his father. Before hatching, his egg was smuggled far from his home in hopes of keeping him safe from his father's grasp. It worked, though growing up wasn't easy for the young pearlcatcher. For a while he was raised by some nobles and wasn't aware of his status as a prince for a long time. He grew curious however as he grew up and his adoptive parents finally told him in hushed whispers the truth about who he was and where he came from.
The revelation saddened the young dragon. For some time he even tried to think of ways to go to her aid- along with any other younger brothers and sisters he might have there. But he was unable to attempt any. Even leaving his home with the nobles was risky. Any dragon might spot him and arise suspicion of who he was due to his appearance. Mason was growing restless though and the nobles knew they couldn't keep hiding him forever, especially once he wasn't a hatchling anymore.
He left in the cover of night, bidding farewell to those who raised him before heading out of Ice completely. It pained him to leave his mother behind but the Lost Prince had little choice. Mason knew she'd done this to save him from a life trapped like she was and knew it would hurt her more if she ever found out her sacrifice was in vain. He could only hope one day to even meet her- though he doubted she'd even know who he was.
For a long time he wandered Sornieth alone. Keeping a low profile while scraping by on what little coin he could make. At least he'd learned to defend himself by this point. His only solace was the fact he still had his pearl- strange as it was giving the clear, glassy look to it. Sometimes he swore he saw something dark moving within the crystalized structure whenever he'd start adding more memories to it. Living this way was... lonely. But at least he was safe.
Eventually, he ran into a family of traveling oracles. They claimed to be able to tell the future and judging by the eager patrons, they seemed quite good. He watched them from afar for a few days after they'd settled down to stock their supplies and earn some money for their services. Eventually, curiosity got the best of him and he approached in hopes of seeing what might become of his family.
It was one of the granddaughter's, Vega, who looked into the future. Her eyes turned saddened even while they were still distant and misted while she foresaw what was to come. Mason's hopes dropped. She tried to reassure him that his family may live on despite the death omens she'd seen but it was her grandmother, Artemis, who ultimately made him feel better. Her vision was much clearer after years of practice and while she mentioned things would be rather stormy and challenging for his family to overcome- including deaths of his kin he'd likely never meet- there was still hope things might get better.
This meeting eventually lead to him and Vega talking more with each other, as he was curious about her bloodline's abilities. The two became close in their brief time together and when it was time for the Moon Oracles to move on again he joined them. Eventually the two became mates and he admitted to her that he was meant to be a prince to a place he'd never set foot in, heir to a imperial father he'd never met. Having seen his future, she had already guessed, though he was glad she'd waited for him to talk about it instead of prodding him for information on his past.
Mason's still unsure about how he might one day help the family left behind but for now has started to look ahead to his own family. His hatchlings possessing many qualities of their Moon Oracle heritage, though he hasn't told them about the royal blood that flows through their veins. In his mind, it was much too dangerous for them if word got out. Like his mother did with him, he can only hope sending them out into the world on their own could help them lead happy, safe lives.
When he lost his mate, the pearlcatcher was distraught. The loss of Vega hit deep and while rationally he knew his family had nothing to do with it, there was still paranoia lurking in the back of his mind. While he still had his daughter Aurora, the pearlcatcher knew he couldn't take her away from her own mate and family—especially when she had her own demons to quell. Needing some space, Mason said his farewells to the Moon Oracles and left to do some traveling on his own. Perhaps one day he would rejoin them, but for now, he needed time to grieve and find himself again.
